“Really good. Thankfully, I closed a deal.”
“Congrats.”
“How about you? How was the convention?”
I sit down on the barstool next to her. Gabby and I have grown close since we all moved in together. Lila’s a lot of fun, but Gabby and I seem to have more in common. I’ve been meaning to tell her what Amanda said about Jeremy, but I haven’t had a chance.
“The convention went very smoothly. But something interesting happened a few days ago, and I’m not sure what to think about it.”
“Ohhhh, tell me.” She puts her phone down on the counter and turns toward me.
“Amanda thinks Jeremy is interested in me. I told her it’s ridiculous, but now I’m overthinking it.”
She pulls her hair behind her and flips it over her shoulder. “Wait, you mean Jeremy, your friend who always brings the donuts.”
I nod. “Yes.”
“The hot guy who calls you Blondie.”
“Yep.”
I guess I’ve described Jeremy as being hot. When did I do that?
She chews on her bottom lip for a few seconds. “Do you think it’s true?”
I shift around on the chair. “No. I mean I don’t think so. He’s just that guy who teases everyone, and we work so well together …”
I pause and think about the many hours I’ve spent working side by side with Jeremy. We each have specific strengths that compliments the other. Jeremy’s great with clients and advertising, and I love the creativity and event planning side of things. Our boss, Carl says that our skills combined becomes genius marketing.
“Okay, so hypothetically speaking,” she says, placing her hands on the counter. “If it were true, how does that make you feel?”
How do I feel?I wish I could answer this question.
“I guess I never thought about it,” I say. “I mean, I’ve always thought he was attractive.”
“But you two are friends.”
“Yes. We spend a lot of time together.”
She twists her mouth to the side. “You know some of the greatest love stories of all time started off with friendship.”
My mind flips to Dante.
“I know. We’ve talked about this.”
“So, what are you going to do?”
I give a noncommittal shrug. “Nothing. I can’t exactly walk into the office and ask him if he has feelings for me.”
“Well, you could, but I wouldn’t recommend it.”
“The one thing I can say is, he’s not a fan of Golden.”
“Really? Now that’s interesting. I’m assuming you’ve talked about Dante at work.”
“All the time,” I say. “Jeremy says he wasn’t impressed with the food, and he loves to joke about it.”
“Now we’re getting somewhere,” she says.
