She turned to face him more fully.
“I was thinking about watching the show, but I wanted to talk to you about it first.”
“You haven’t watched it?” she asked with her head cocked.
He shook his head. “It felt like an invasion of privacy or something.”
“Well, millions of viewers don’t share that opinion.”
“I know, I just wanted to give you the choice.”
A wave of emotion swept over her face. She looked like she was going to cry for a split second, but then she smiled and cupped Lucas’s face. “You can watch it, just…”
He waited for her to continue, but she was struggling.
“Just what?”
“Just promise you won’t think of my any differently,” she said quietly with her brow scrunched. It damn near broke his heart.
“There is no chance of that, Songbird,” he said before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Suddenly George came sauntering down the basement stairs and hopping up onto his lap before curling up resting his head on Sadie's thigh.
"Where on earth did you come from? How do you keep getting in and out of our houses?" Sadie asked.
"He's a clever boy," Lucas said, scratching him behind his ears.
Sadie looked up at him with her deep brown eyes. Damn, he was dangerously close to falling in love with this woman. He kissed her and then held her close as she rested her head on his shoulder. Yeah, this was pretty perfect. It didn't get much better than this.
CHAPTER 26
SADIE
Sadie was just finishing up her shift at the diner. She'd been working the lunch shift again today and she was ready to head home.
"I think table 5 is still waiting on a soup and sandwich," said Mae as she grabbed a plate from the window.
"Shoot, sorry about that."
Sadie got them their food and took it to the table apologizing for the wait.
"Are you doing, okay?" asked Mae.
"I'm a little distracted today."
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine."
Mae crossed her hands over her chest and gave Sadie an evaluating gaze.
"I'll be right as rain for my next shift, I'm just having an off day," Sadie said trying to reassure her.
"Oh, I know that, but if you need anything let me know."
"I will."
"When your table leaves you can head home if you want."
