“I could play with your body all day and never get tired. How does that sound to you, baby? You want me to keep going?” I croon before licking her harder, applying more pressure while keeping my tongue soft and my pace steady.
“Oh, God, please don’t stop. Fuck, I’m so close. Please don’t stop, Sam,” she begs as she spreads her legs wider, and her body stiffens.
I slide my hand up to play with her tits, nearly exploding from the sound of her panting. “Are you ready to come for me? I want to hear you scream my name while you come on my face. Can you do that for me, baby?”
“Yes. Yes. Yes,” she whines as she squirms, thighs tightening around my head, and I suck her clit into my mouth. I work my fingers into her sensitive spot in a steady rhythm, and her back arches as her body goes stiff. Then she’s screaming my name as she completely falls apart.
I kiss my way back up her body and pull her into me in a hug. “You’re so perfect, baby. So fucking perfect.” As I tuck her into me, she buries her face in my chest and I rub her bare back, letting her calm down from the rush. Several moments pass before she pulls away with tears in her eyes.
“Thank you.” She sniffles as she wipes a stray tear from her cheek. “Thank you for showing me that I’m not broken.” She sniffles again as a sob catches in her throat.
I feel my heart cracking as I hold her, and I know that this is just a small step. I know we’ve still got a long way to go. I may not have much time left, but I’m determined to make the most of what I’ve been given.
“Shh,” I whisper. “You aren’t anywhere close to being broken. I promise you I’m going to prove that to you very soon.” I kiss her temple and wrap a blanket around us as I hold her, rocking her like that until she finally falls asleep. It’s only then that I close my eyes and let myself pretend this is real life.

“Well, well, well, look who the cat dragged in. You’ve got some explaining to do, missy.” Gwen calls from her cozy nest on the couch. Feeling light and refreshed, I step into her living room and hang my coat on the coat rack.
This morning, I woke up to a surprise breakfast on the rooftop after the most incredible night, even though it was interrupted when Jack called, practically begging Elliot and me to come to stay with Gwen for a few days. Apparently, he got a call to make a cameo for some new Discovery Channel show filming in Costa Rica.
As much as I enjoy hanging out with Sam—and our lessons—I was excited to get some time with my besties just to let loose and stop worrying about all the complications I’ve welcomed into my life.
I need this time to relax and have a little fun.
I help myself to a glass of wine. Elliot arrived before me and had already prepared a tray of snacks and drinks for our slumber party. She rounds the corner carrying a giant bowl of popcorn, and her eyes widen when she sees me.
“Mags! You look so good!” She sets the popcorn on the coffee table and rushes to me, pulling me into a tight hug. “Is this sweater new?” She leans back, still holding me at my elbows, “That green looks amazing on you. Ooh, and it’s cashmere!” She runs her hand up my sweater sleeve and back down again.
“Thanks, Elliot. Yes, it’s new.” I feel the beginning of a blush burning on my cheeks. “Sam bought it for me.”
“Oh,Sambought it for you? How isSam?” Gwen singsongs from behind us, and we spin to face her, not wanting her to feel left out of the conversation. She’s been put on bed rest, and Elliot and I are under strict orders to give her whatever she wants and only to let her up to use the bathroom.
“Yes, he did.” I wipe my sweaty palms on the legs of my jeans before grabbing the stem of my wine glass. “Sam’s well. He’s working late tonight.” I tug at the neck of my turtleneck, loosening the tight fabric that suddenly feels a little claustrophobic, and take a seat on the opposite end of the sofa. Elliot carries the tray of snacks to the coffee table and sits in the armchair next to Gwen.
Gwen shoves her hand into a bowl of popcorn. “And how would you label your relationship with Sam these days?”
“Gwen! Let her at least finish her drink before you start the interrogation!” Elliot hisses, but Gwen doesn’t relent. She just narrows her eyes as she waits for my answer.
I take a long gulp of my wine. I knew this was coming. After Sam told me he enlisted the help of our friends to set up the rooftop last night, I knew I’d be hearing about it. I just wasn’t quite expecting it to happen so soon. “We’re just friends. He’s helping me become better acquainted with myself, but it’s nothing more than that,” I assure her.
“Uh huh,” Gwen eyes me up and down. “I call bullshit.”
“So, um, how’s the renovation going on the studio?” Elliot pipes in nervously, and I’m thankful for the change in conversation.
I make myself a small plate of snacks, piling various crackers and dips on my plate. “Things are going great. I actually stopped by on my way here and spoke with my contractor. They plan on replacing all the damage and installing new top-of-the-line pipes and a hot water heater next week. After that, it’ll mainly be cosmetic stuff, replacing drywall, laying new floor throughout, baseboards, painting, all that stuff.” I relax a little as I pop a grape in my mouth.
“That’s amazing! So, what are your plans until they finish? If you want to give Sam a break or need your own space, you know you’re always welcome to stay with Benjamin and me. We’ve got a guest room, but fair warning, his family’s staying with us, and my mother-in-law is kind of eccentric.” She laughs. “I think she even makes me look normal sometimes.”
I bite the side of my nail as I consider her offer. “I’ll let you know, okay?” I don’t know what will happen after my reunion, but it might be weird staying with Sam after I’ve gotten together with Trent. I know we’re just friends, but I don’t want to seem like I’m flaunting anything in front of him.
“Of course. Why don’t we change into pajamas and get cozy for the movie?”
Elliot jumps up, and Gwen throws off her blanket, revealing a cute two-piece pajama set. “I’ve already beat you to it.”
I look around nervously and bite my lip. “I’m good. Way too comfortable to change right now.” I scoop a chip into the large bowl of dip and shove the whole thing in my mouth as a bead of sweat slides down my back. Suddenly, I regret the turtleneck and jean combo, but it’s for the best.
