I removed my hand from his and wiped it on my pants leg, which caused Mylo to look over at me. I only smiled and put my hand back in his, letting out a deep sigh. I could get through this.
With his free hand, he found the key he was looking for on his keychain and opened the door. He held it open for me to enter first, but I shook my head.
"No, you go in first."
He gawked at me. "Nah, ladies first, and you know that."
I scoffed. "We can make an exception today. Please go first. This is your family, and I'm new." I hoped like hell he wouldn't make me go first.
"Go ahead," A'Mylo sternly urged.
We'd be out here all day if he thought I'd be walking in first. He wanted to be stubborn. Well, I could too. Sometimes I couldn't stand his Taurus ways. As many times as he called me stubborn, he was just as bad as I was.
"Who the hell is that letting out my good heat?" I heard a deep baritone, causing me to nearly leap into A'Mylo's arms.
He laughed and wrapped his arms around my waist. "It's me, Pops. I'm getting ready to come in now." He tried shoving me inside the house, but I still didn't budge. "Man, why does your ass gotta be stubborn?" he snapped, glaring at me.
I glared and snapped back. "The same reason you are."
We wouldn't be getting anywhere with both of us acting this way. I didn't want to go in first, and he was set in his ways about certain shit. He got on my nerves real bad.
"Bring your ass in here, Mylo!" his dad yelled.
"I will as soon as this girl stops playing with me."
The ground could have opened and swallowed me whole right then and there. I guess he felt when my body went limp. He used that time to push me inside the house and closed the door behind him. This house was simply beautiful. The color scheme from outside was followed inside, with a touch of green and blue added.
His parents were in the living room with the TV blasting. His parents' house reminded me of being at my grandma's house. They had a lot of family pictures on the wall with plants. The living room was connected to the dining room with a kitchen off to the side. From the living room, I could see pots on the stove. The air was filled with the scent of baked goods. Was his mothera baker or something? A'Mylo was the spitting image of his parents, but I saw what he meant when he said he and his father could be twins. I saw Ni'Asia in his father, too.
"Looka here. Who's this cutie?" Mylo's mother asked with a smile on her face.
I beamed. "Hi. I'm Leighton."
Just from her friendly smile, I felt right at home. She got up from the couch and walked over to me.
"Hey, there, Leighton. I'm Brandy, but you can call me Mama Bee. I'm a hugger. May I have a hug?"
"Oh, sure." I went in and gave her a big hug. I instantly liked this woman.
"Move out of the way, Bee. Let me hug her, too," his father insisted.
I chuckled and stepped aside to hug him, too.
"Hey there, pretty lady. I'm Allen, but you can call me Big Al."
I laughed as A'Mylo dropped his head to his chest.
"Don't call him that. He's already conceited enough," Mama Bee stated. "Let's have a seat. Do you want anything to drink or eat?"
I shook my head. "No, ma'am. Thank you."
A'Mylo and I took a seat on the couch, and he grasped my hand in his. I squeezed it and let out a deep sigh, relaxing completely.
"Leighton—you have a beautiful name." Mama Bee smiled. "What is it that you do? It's been a while since my boy brought home a woman."
I looked over at A'Mylo, seeing him drop his head.
"I'm a realtor. A'Mylo and I met when he came to my job looking for someone to help him find a house. I'm his realtor."
