My Lee:
I don't have any plans.
The corners of my mouth rose as I chuckled to myself.
Me:
You do now. Let's chill.
I was never the type of man to beat around the bush. What would be the point? I threw my phone onto the bed and finished getting ready for work.
After work, I headed to Nya's apartment. I had needed to talk to her about a couple of things, mainly about Leighton and me. There was no telling how the future would unfold for us, but I had wanted Leighton in my life for a long time, which meant she'd be in my daughter's life, too. That meant Nya and Ni'Asia had to meet Leighton. The only person I was concerned about was Nya. With her attitude, I didn't know how she'd take the news. I just didn't want or need any bullshit from her.
I pulled into the apartment complex and saw the kids hanging out on the playground. I kept it pushing to Nya's since I knew Nini wouldn't be out there. Nya didn't feel comfortable letting her come out by herself.
Five minutes later, I knocked on Nya's door. I heard footsteps coming to the door, which came as a surprise. Usually, she'd take her time.
"Who is it?" Nya yelled from the other side of the door.
"It's me, Nya," I called out.
She unlocked the door and moved aside to let me in. She was dressed as if she had just rolled out of bed in a short white and black nightgown. I didn't let my eyes linger too long, as I didn't want to give her the wrong impression.
"Hmmm, any reason you're here?" she asked with her hand on her hip.
"Yeah. I need to talk to you and Ni'Asia, but I prefer to talk to you first." I headed to take a seat on the couch and rubbed my hands together. She came and took a seat next to me.
"I have a feeling I'm not going to like this..."
I chuckled. "It wouldn't matter if you do or don't. I just need you to keep an open mind about it."
"Okay. What is it?" Nya asked.
"I'm talking to someone. Well, I might as well say dating, but we haven't made it official yet. I want her to meet Ni'Asia."
"Humph, but you just said you're not dating her. I'm not about to let you bring some woman you're talking to around my child, and you don't even have a title on your relationship," she snapped.
I dropped my head and ran a hand across it. "I'm feeling her, and I have a feeling we'll have a future together. I just want you and Nini to meet her, that's all."
Nya remained silent for a while. "I don't know about this A'Mylo."
I had a feeling she'd say that. How in the hell would I get her to drop that chip from her shoulders?
"Look, if it doesn't work out, you can beat my ass. I don't want to have her in my life and not let her meet my child."
She snickered. "Deal. As long as I can beat your ass if it doesn't work out. Knowing you like I do, I know it won't. You're married to your job."
I stood up, not about to say anything on that. If I did, it would start an argument, and that was something I tried to avoid with Nya. "I'll go talk to Nini now." With that, I strolled away from Nya and headed to Nini's bedroom.
She laid across her bed with her iPad in her hands.
"Nini!" I called out.
Her little neck snapped in my direction as she dropped the tablet on the bed. She quickly got up and came running into my arms.
"Daddy!" she called out.
I kissed the side of her face. "Wassup? How's Daddy's girl doing?"
