Leighton giggled. "Yes, you have a house! I'm so happy for you!"
I pulled her into my arms. "Nah, none of this would be possible without you. You made it happen. All thanks go to you." I lowered my head and gave her a soul-touching kiss that led to us, making love on the floor under a bunch ofI'm Sorryballoons.
Nya looked at both of us with a perplexed expression on her face when she opened the door for us.
She held the door with her hand while the other was on her hip. "What are you doing here, A'Mylo? Ni'Asia is with my parents this weekend. I told you that."
I nodded curtly. "Yeah, I know that. I'm not here for Nini. Leighton and I are here to talk to you."
Nya's eyes slid to Leighton before they narrowed slightly. I wanted to tell her not to look at her like that. Leighton hadn't done a damn thing to her as I knew of. Even if she did, Nya didn't have the right to look at her like that, not when I was around.
"What do y'all have to talk to me about?" Nya coolly asked.
I matched her tone. "Are you going to let us in?"
I could sense her attitude rolling off her, and I didn't like it. What the hell was her problem?
Nya moved aside to let us in, and we walked into the living room, taking a seat. She came into the living room, too, but she didn't sit. I paid that no attention.
She folded her arms across her chest. "What's the reason y'all are here?"
"What's the reason you have a problem with her?" I jabbed a thumb in Leighton's direction.
Nya shifted from one foot to the other. "I don't have a problem with her. The only thing I tried to do was warn her of the type of man you are. Somebody should have warned me," she snapped.
"Man, you need to let that go. Why are you still holding on to the past? It's been over two years since we broke up. One minute you're good, and the next you want to bring that up. I should be the one feeling some kind of way. But nah, I'm not doing this with you. I just want to know what your problem is with Leighton. Then you showed up at her job unannounced. How the hell did you find out where she worked, anyway?"
Nya averted her eyes to the floor. "Why does it even matter? She's going to stay with you, so why bring it up?"
"It matters because you showed up at my job with unnecessary advice I didn't ask for. It matters because it gave stalker behavior when you don't even know my last name. It matters because I am in this man's life, so I want to be y'all's daughter's life. I didn't have a problem with you until then, but I had a feeling you didn't enjoy seeing us together. Whatever issue you have with A'Mylo, keep it between the two of you. Don't bring it to me," She pointed to herself. "I'm not the type to have confrontation with anyone, but if I have to, I will," Leighton interjected.
Nobody said anything for a while after that.
"If you had wanted to be with A'Mylo after you left him, you should have done that. If that's why you showed up at my job, thinking it would move me out of the way. It didn't work. He's not up for grabs anymore. He's taken. I'm not sorry," Lee continued.
I pressed my lips together to keep from laughing. It wasn't a funny moment, but Lee saying 'I'm not up for grabs' was amusing. I had to shake my head to pull myself together.
"Whatever. I don't care, since I don't want him, anyway. I have a man in my life."
"Good for you," Leighton responded.
"Why did you show up at her job? That's what I still want to know." I couldn't let it go. I never thought Nya would do something like that.
Nya shifted from one foot to the other and averted her head to the floor. "I looked her up on Facebook. There aren't many Leightons in the area, so it was easy to find her and where she worked. It wasn't my finest moment, but I thought I did a good thing."
I gawked at Nya, wondering if she thought what she did was a good thing for real?
Leighton stood up. "I'm not here to be your friend or for you to like me because I'm with Mylo. I'm only here to make sure we're cordial to each other for Ni'Asia's sake." She turned to me.
Nya nodded, pressing her lips together. "For Ni'Asia's sake, we can be cordial to each other."
Leighton nodded and looked down at me. "I'm ready when you are."
I stood up and looked at Nya. "I already know nothing will change with our relationship, and I'm cool with that. I only want you to respect Leighton. Whatever beef you have with me, let it remain between you and me. Leave her out of it. You enjoy the rest of your day."
I grasped Leighton's hand in mine, and we walked out of the apartment in silence.
"I think we handled that well," I stated.
