I guffawed, causing her lips to curl upward. "Man, whatever. Let's go into the kitchen where the food is waiting for us."
I grasped Lee's hands in mine, and we walked into the kitchen. She stopped walking, and I smirked. It was another sign waiting for her. It read:
Although it's your birthday, it's our first of many birthdays together.
She craned her neck to look up at me over her shoulder. The smile on her face was priceless. "I love that. It's so true, too. What are we going to eat?"
"How about you go sit down and I'll serve you? Tonight is yours, and I want to spoil my baby. Can I do that?"
She hunched her shoulders. "Do you? I'll be at the kitchen table, waiting."
I watched Leighton walk away, my eyes on the roundness of her ass as she swayed to the table. My mouth watered for a bite out of it. This night was going to turn her everywhere but loose, and I'd be in the center of it.
"This is too much!" she exclaimed, holding up something in her hand.
I forged confusion as I eyed her. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"This!" She pointed to the gift card that was in her hand. "You know that boutique only sells things online and is expensive as hell."
I nodded, agreeing with her. "Yeah, I know."
She only stared at me in disbelief before she plopped down on the chair. "I—" She sighed deeply. "Thank you."
I winked at her. "This is only the beginning, baby.
I served Lee garlic and herb salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. On the side were a lobster tail with shrimp. Her eyes grew misty, and she sniffed.
"This is too much. Gosh, Mylo, what's all this?"
I lifted her chin with my hand, so she could look me in my eyes when I told her this. "It's your day, baby. I love you and want to cherish you. For as long as I could remember, I was against having a relationship until you came into my life and rocked it. I want to spoil you like the queen you are. Just know it's more where this came from. If you stick beside me, you will never have to worry about a thing."
A tear slipped from her eye as her lips trembled. "You love me?"
I paused, wondering where she got that from, but then it dawned on me what I had said. "Oh shit. It wasn't supposed to come out like that."
I let go of her chin and plopped down in the chair next to her, reaching for her hand. She wasted no time putting it in mine.
"I've felt it for a while now, but I was in denial of my feelings. I was too afraid to let myself feel anything for you, but it snuck up on me. You snuck up on me. Who knew I'd be where I am today with a relationship? But with you, you're a breath of fresh air I didn't know I needed to survive. You're it for me, Lee. I do love you."
She sobbed as she bowed her head. "A'Mylo," she croaked out. "On my birthday, you made me cry."
I chuckled. "It's your birthday, you can cry if you want to."
We shared a laugh.
She sniffed and reached for a napkin to wipe her tears away. "I love you too, A'Mylo. I never thought I'd feel like this for a man I've only known for a short time. I met you in September, and with it now being November, the time we spent together has been amazing. You've made it easy to fall in love with you. You'rekind, sweet, caring, and most importantly, you're the sexiest man I've ever met in my life. I never thought I'd find happiness like this before. I think it's your take-charge attitude that has me so wrapped up in you."
I laughed. "In the beginning, you didn't like my demanding ways."
"Oh, trust me, I didn't. You have to have everything your way and have to have it within the time you want it. It bugs me out, but I understand. You're you."
I shrugged. "And I'm not gonna change."
She laughed. "I can see that."
A moment of silence passed between us, and I sighed deeply, feeling as if a load had lifted off of me. I guess I needed this more than ever.
"I need to go fix my plate of food."
