“Heath… I feel like a pin cushion.”

“I’m sure. You have several stitches in your side, fewer than I expected, but that’s in part to the healing power. Now… let’s see if you’re stable enough to get these kiddos out.”

Anthony paced the hallway, waiting to see what the verdict was. He was apprehensive about Rory having surgery so soon after being in a semi-coma, but he trusted Heath.

“Anthony,” Drake stepped into the hall, “How’s Rory?”

“Good. Awake finally. I’m waiting to hear if I’m becoming a father today. How’s Dante?”

“Alive, thanks to Emersyn.”

“You’ve got one hell of a wife, commander.”

“I do, don’t I.”

“Anthony,” Christine placed her hand on his shoulder, “Heath is moving her to the medical wing. We’re going to meet our babies today.”

“Congratulations! I’ll go share the news with the others. We will come down and wait with you soon.”

“No rush,” Heath closed the door, “It will take a while to prep her, and then the cesarean will take a bit – seeing as there are three babies to deliver.”

“That will give me and the others some time to eat and clean up.”

“Please… get some rest first. You can come later.”

“I doubt the women will want to wait, but I’ll tell them what you said. Congrats again.”

“You’ll get your chance too, Drake.” Anthony clapped him on the back.

“Let’s go get ready.” Anthony grabbed Christine from the room. They kissed Rory before leaving, promising not to be gone long.

Chapter 36

Dimitra stood beneath the spray of the water. She closed her eyes and leaned her face into the stream as it flowed over her skin.

Jason stepped into the stall, wrapping his arms around her, “Are you alright?” his lips pressed against the tender spot beneath her ear as he nuzzled her hair out of the way.

“Yes… I just can’t believe it is all over.”

“We’re free to live our lives in peace.”

“I’m so happy I have you, Jason,” she turned to face him, the water hitting her back, “even if we met in the worst of circumstances.”

Jason leaned his head to hers, “I am too.”

Dimitra could hear the sadness in his voice, “What is it? Are you having second thoughts about us?”

He looked into her eyes, “No… of course not.”

“Then what? You can tell me anything.”

“I’m worried about my sister. What happens to her now that this is all done?”

“You can ask her tonight.”

“Tonight?”

“Yes. I asked Sarifena to have her brought here. I knew you’d need to see her.”
