“Me too… Although Luca isn’t going to be happy stuck here.” Onika sighed.

“He needs to stay and protect the others. Amalee and Rory are not fit to join this mission. Heath needs to be here for Rory, but I need to convince Anthony his expertise is needed.” Drake pushed open the door and stepped into the hallway.

“No. Leave him here with his wife. I will go.” Jason spoke. “I realize I am not a Commander or a Guard, but I will protect Dimitra with my life.”

Drake held his gaze, “Your Majesty,” he cut his eyes to Dimitra, “It’s your call.”

“He can go. In fact, I am making him my advisor right now – until he is king.”

“Very well.” Drake clapped him on the back, “You’ve done more for this kingdom than you’ll ever be repaid for.”

“I don’t want repayment. I only want to love her for eternity.”

Drake nodded, “Meet me in the conference room in five minutes. I’m going to fetch Emersyn and Sarifena. They will need to come. It would appear they haven’t used their magic for the last time yet.”

Dimitra laced her fingers with Jason’s, “I love you. Are you sure you want to come? You could stay here and guard the others.”

“If you go, I go.”

“I’ll meet you two in five. I need to break the news to Luca.”

“Good Luck.”

Chapter 31

They were all squeezed into an SUV, making their way to the location given by the prisoner. Emersyn was bristling with rage when she found out he’d been hiding in her kingdom the entire time. Sarifena tried to console her, reminding her that no one was to blame for his madness. Dimitra sat between Jason and Captain Brady in the back. Sarifena and Emersyn boxed in Drake, who sat in the center row.

“Are we close?” Sarifena asked Onika, who was poised in the front seat. Commander Critcher was driving, while multiple SUV’s filled with guardsmen followed behind.

“Yes.” He ground his teeth, causing his jaw to flex with tension. “We need to prepare for the unexpected. And this time, be sure it is Helix you are killing.”

“I won’t be making a mistake this time.” Dimitra curled her hands into fists, her magic burning to get out.

“Our first job is to recover Dante… dead or alive.”

“Alive… damn it. Don’t say he’s dead. I won’t go back to the Ruby Kingdom and tell my cousin her husband is dead. Do you hear me?” Dimitra barked out.

“As long as I can get to him soon enough, he’ll be fine,” Emersyn whispered. She was telling everyone without actually saying it, that if he was near death, she’d be able to save him. However, if they were too late, there’d be nothing she could do.

“Alright,” Commander Critcher pulled down a gravel road, “We will leave the vehicles here. The house is just through the woods. I want the Queens to approach from the street, so you will need to walk back out to the main road and ease your way down to the next drive. The rest of us will enter the forest and take the backside. I’ve ordered six men to escort the four of you, along with Jason and Drake. Are you ready?”

“Let’s kill this mother fucker.” Onika spat as she got out of the car.

“Onika,” Captain Brady grabbed her forearm, “Can you cover the area in darkness? It will make the approach easier.”

“Let me help her. If I conjure rain, Helix will think it is a storm approaching.” Sarifena laced her hands with Onika’s, “Are you ready?”

Everyone watched as the two women conjured their magic. Clouds rolled in, covering the area in gloomy darkness. With the addition of Sarifena’s magic, the sky opened, and rain began to fall.

“We’ll get wet, but it’s better than giving away our plan.” Sarifena shrugged.

“Ok… it’s time. Be careful, everyone. We don’t need to lose any more lives.”

Chapter 32

The pain was searing as Helix slid the blade across his chest. He was torturing Dante slowly, making sure his death sent a painful message to the queens.

“This is just the start… they’ll barely recognize you once I’ve finished carving you up.”
