Heath pressed his hand to the small of her back, “Constable Philips will let us know as soon as he hears something.”

“I just don’t understand why Anthony had to go. He should be here with his wife.”

“You know why he went. He feels responsible for this mess. His guilt and grief will take time to diminish.”

“He’s stupid to believe that. We don’t blame him. Fuck,” Sarifena threw her arms up, “His wife lost him once… he could be hurt. How will we live with ourselves if something happens to him?”

Heath tugged her into his arms, “He will be fine. Onika will not let any harm come to any of them. Her rage is something I would not want to be at the other end of Sari. Come, sit down.” He guided her to the couch.

“He’s right, you know,” Emersyn shut the patio door behind herself, “Onika will destroy anything or anyone that gets in their way.”

Sarifena patted the empty space beside her, “I know… but I feel so out of control lately. I’m sorry. My emotions are off the chart lately.”

Emersyn quirked a brow, “Sarifena…” she glanced at Heath, her silent question had him bolt to his feet.

“What’s wrong?” Sarifena looked at Heath in surprise.

“I’ll be back in a moment.” He hurried out of the library, leaving Sarifena staring at the opened door he walked through.

“Sari…” Emersyn tugged her hand into hers, “I think he went to the castle's infirmary.”

“Why?” Sarifena looked at Emersyn, confusion plaguing her eyes.

“You said your emotions have been all over the place.”

“Yeah… I’m stressed and not sleeping. It’s to be expected.”

“You’re right. I think you're expecting.”

“Expecting?” Sarifena rubbed her forehead, “That’s not what I said, Em.”

“No, but that’s what I think is wrong with you.”

“It’s not possible. You know that.”

“You were told there was a chance the poison would make you infertile. A chance, Sari. Which means…”

“It means you could be pregnant.” Heath shut the door behind him as he rushed to the couch and kneeled in front of Sarifena. “I went to grab this.” He pulled a pregnancy test out of his pocket, “You need to take it.”

“This is stupid. You guys know this is nearly impossible.”

“Nothing is impossible, love. You were there when Emersyn brought that child to life when he was near death.”

“Oh my GOD. What if my magic healed you, Sari? You were touching him when my magic flowed through his body, remember?”

“I do… I could feel the energy filling my veins.” Sarifena stared at the test in Heath’s hands. She grabbed the stick and stood, “Will you come with me, Emersyn? I’m scared to do this alone. Heath… is that ok?”

“I’ll wait here, my love.” He kissed her hand, “Go… everything will be alright either way.”

Chapter 19

Dimitra peered through the bushes, her eyes scanning the area for danger. They’d walked for most of the day, trying to find signs of civilization. Jason wasn’t a hundred percent sure which direction he’d carried her when they fled the cave, but he agreed they had to try. They agreed her plan to use her magic to signal the others was too dangerous. Not just for them, but also for the Queens. There was no way of knowing how Helix would react if she made an attempt to contact the others.

“It looks like a small town,” Dimitra peered back at Jason, who was scanning the surroundings as well.

“We need to be careful before alerting our presence. Helix still has those helping him. We don’t want them to tell him where we are.”

“I agree,” she glanced back out into the street bustling with people, “but we have to take a chance.”
