“Stop…” he ran his fingers through her hair and lifted her face so he could look into her eyes, “let me in. What’s going on in that beautiful mind?”

“Have you found anyone else at her house?”

“The body of a man, her husband, I assume, was recovered.”

Amalee hiccupped, a sob worming its way to the surface, “Anyone else.”

“No… the house was cleared after him. Why, Amalee… what aren’t you telling me?”

“They had a son… a two-year-old.”

“A child? Christ,” Dante pulled his phone out and pressed it to his ear.

Yes… No, she is not ok. I will not be leaving her side. Fine. No. She said he is two. Look, I don’t know what to tell you, but the Queen insists she had a son. Find him. Ok, thank you. Amalee,” Dante shoved the phone into his pants, “Commander Gentry confirms there were no other bodies at the wreckage. He will put out an alert and see if the boy wandered off or if someone has him – you're sure she had a child?”

“Yes… I know because he wasn’t her child, Dante. He was ours.”
