Chapter 7

He watched from a distance, seeing how they handled this explosion. The last several had been a warning to them – but this one was practice. He had a special surprise for the Amethyst Queen. Soon she would lose everything – leaving the kingdom vulnerable for him to take.

“Did you find the journal?”

“No, sir. The servant I paid says it’s been missing for several days. Apparently, the Queen does not know where it has gone. They have been scouring the grounds but have turned up nothing.”

Jason’s stomach rolled with bile. He hated everything about this man, but as long as he held his sister captive, he would do whatever he had to, to ensure her safety.

“And the Diamond Queen? Are you any closer to breaking her?”

“She is not easily trifled with. Can’t you just let her be, sir? I do not see how using her against the others will help you. Besides, I think she would choose death over standing against the other five kingdoms.”

“Don’t get too close to her… you both belong to me. If neither of you proves useful – what good will you be to me alive?”

Jason swallowed, he’d been avoiding the conversation with Dimitra for a while. Still, he knew if he didn’t tell her the demands, they were both as good as dead… his sister too. That thought made him sick to his stomach – his duty was to her. But why did using Dimitra feel like a betrayal as well?

“Yes, sir. I’ll talk to her again this evening.”

“No… I think it’s time she and I meet.”

“Is that a good idea? I mean… perhaps you should do something for her, to convince her.”

“Force will convince her. You seem smitten with the prisoner, Jason.”

His gaze narrowed on Jason, making him squirm.

“You are mistaken. She is just a means to an end.”

“Maybe you should use her for yourself… get this silly attraction to the Queen out of your system. You really are useless if your dick is leading your brain.”

“Are you insinuating I should force myself on her?”

“What better way to break a woman. In fact, I insist. I expect proof in a few days you finally broke her.”

Jason held his breath until he was alone. He needed to figure out a way to get his sister out of his clutches and then save Dimitra – or else her fate would be as bleak as his own. He’d rather risk death than harm her.
