“Jesus Christ, Amalee. You act like your hiding something life-altering. Did you kill someone?”
“Only my heart.”
“Stop talking in code. Is this about Dante?”
“Yes and no. He doesn’t know either.”
“I don’t know what secret you’re holding so close to the chest, but my advice is to come clean. Keeping something that heavy will only fester and explode, taking out everyone around you.”
Amalee mulled her words over. She was right – but once the words were out, there would be no taking them back. It would hurt not only her parents but the man she still loved.
“I can see the wheels turning in your head. Hell, all your thinking is giving me a headache. Let’s get up and go on a journal hunt. At least it’ll take your mind off,” she waved her hand, “whatever this is.”
