Chapter 23
The shrill sound of ringing woke Amalee from a blissful sleep. Finding herself wrapped in her love’s arms brought a smile to her lips.
“Dante,” she elbowed him, “your phone is ringing.”
Dante grumbled something as he reached over her naked body and grabbed his phone.
“Constable Graham,” he barked into the phone, “What? When? Yes, she’s here with me. No. Give us ten minutes. We’ll be down.” Dante tossed the phone onto the table, “We need to get up and meet Commander Gentry. A letter was sent to the Ruby Kingdom Commander. They have requested all the Kingdoms for a conference call.”
“What?” Amalee pushed up, the sheet dropping to her waist.
Dante groaned, “We need to hurry, or we will never get out of here.” He sucked her bare nipple into his mouth, causing her to jump.
“Stop…” she swatted at him as she slipped from the bed. “I’ll get cleaned up and dressed.”
Dante watched as she rushed into the bathroom. Grabbing his phone, “Commander, let the others know we will be down in thirty minutes.” He hung up and tossed his phone onto the mattress and stalked into the bathroom.
They arrived a few minutes late, evoking a few raised eyebrows from her command staff. Amalee didn’t care. The shower was something she hoped to repeat with Dante often.
“All right, let’s get this call started.”
Amalee took her seat next to Dante, as the commander connected to the video conference. Everyone was present and eager to hear what the note said.
“As you all know, Anthony received a letter this morning. It was addressed to him, so I will let him fill everyone in on the details.”
“Good morning,” Anthony smiled into the camera, “First, let me ask you all to keep your composure – Queen Perse, this impacts you directly.”
Amalee tensed in her chair as Dante slid his arm around her shoulder. Leaning forward in her seat, “all right… I’ll do my best.”
Anthony nodded, “If you all remember, I met a man by the name of Jason Castor when I was kidnapped. He was overseeing the Diamond Queen and myself when we were locked in a cell. He assisted in my escape, promising to protect the Queen. I learned that he was not working willingly, as his own sister was being held captive elsewhere to control him. When I got the letter this morning, I was shocked, to say the least. Jason has taken a tremendous risk in sending this to me.” He held up the parchment in front of the camera, “Anthony, I cannot set the Queen free, although my heart tells me too. If I do, my sister and the Amethyst Queen’s son will die. I cannot have either death on my conscious. I can, however, tell you where they are being held. If you can get them out of the clutches of a mad man, setting Dimitra free will have fewer consequences. Do not worry about her safety – there is no way she will be killed, not yet. He has too many plans she is needed for. I know I am asking a lot from your kingdom, but I do not know what else to do. Something must give. Knowing my sister is safe means I can do what I should have months ago.” Anthony paused, “the letter identifies a location in which the two children are being held.”
The room erupted into chaos. Amalee crumpled into tears as Dante screamed into the call.
“We must move! Why are we waiting around?”
Onika spoke, “Dante – get yourself under control. Amalee needs you.”
Dante glanced down at her, realizing she was shaking with her tears. Pulling her into his lap, he sat back down and held her close.
“Sorry… Anthony, continue.”
“I’ve already sent a team to the address provided. It’s located on the edge of the Emerald Kingdom, close to the deadlands. Commander Meyer has also sent men. We will find them and bring them home. This could be the turning point… we may finally find what we need to bring the Diamond Queen home.”
“Any luck with finding the journal, Amalee?” Rory probed her cousin.
“No… nothing.” Amalee put her head in her hands.
“It’s ok… keep looking it’ll turn up. It has to.” Emersyn smiled, “I will prepare for the children’s arrival.” It was decided her kingdom was the closest, and bringing the kids there would allow them protection quicker than traveling back to the Amethyst Kingdom.
“Let me know at once,” Dante spoke, “I am sending Captain Howard to assist.”
Amalee laid her head on Dante’s chest after they ended the call. Her head was spinning with the revelation she may hold her son for the first time since birth.
“What if something goes wrong?” she whispered against his neck.
“We have to believe it won’t. How about we go grab something to eat and start looking for that damn book again?”
Amalee nodded, easing herself out of his lap to stand. Dante laced their fingers and led them from the room. A part of her hoped this Jason fella was right, and Dimitra wouldn’t be hurt in retaliation for what they were about to do.
