Chapter 14

“Keep that fucking brat quiet.”

Jason held the boy close to his body, bouncing him as he tried to calm the toddler. Of all the things he expected out of this man, stealing a baby was not one of them.

“Why do you have a baby?”

“My dear boy… that is not just any baby. That is the Amethyst Queens child. I will use him to bring her to her knees.”

“And what do you plan to do with him?”

“That is none of your concern right now. If they want to see either of them alive, the six Queens will abdicate their throne to me. Otherwise, their deaths,” he pointed at the child, “will be on their shoulders.”

Jason held the fragile human in his arms, all he could think about was his sister. She wouldn’t want him to keep playing this man’s game, especially now that another child was involved.

“Let’s go. It’s time the Diamond Queen and I met. I want her to know I’m fucking serious. The thrones belong to me… no one else.”

Jason handed the child off, knowing he wouldn’t risk placing him in the same place as Dimitra. Following behind, his thoughts couldn’t keep off the Diamond Queen. When the door pushed open, the shock was written all over Dimitra’s face.

“Who the hell are you?”

“Is that any way to speak to the man controlling your fate?”

Dimitra stilled, her eyes wide when she realized what he said. Quickly recovering from her shock, she had her regal mask back in place.

“Finally. I wondered if you would ever show yourself. I assumed you were a coward.”

“She’s feisty. I am no coward.” He stepped close, running his hand across her cheek, “I’m sure you have a lot of questions, but that’s not important right now. What is important is that you are going to help me.”

“Why would I help you? You’ve held me here a prisoner for what? Nearly six months.”

“Because… if you don’t help me, I’ll kill you and the child I have in my possession.”

“Why would you kill a child?” Dimitra held his stare. His eyes were filled with a darkness she’d never seen before.

“Because… the child I possess is no ordinary boy. No… he is the Amethyst Queen’s child.”

Dimitra barked out a laugh, “Do you take me for an idiot? Amalee has no children.”

“Ah… that’s where you're mistaken. Amalee, your precious Amethyst Queen, had a secret. She and the Constable had been having a love affair and the child,” he smirked, “is the product of their union. Out of fear of her mother, she had him in secret – and gave him away.”

“I don’t believe you. Her mother would have noticed something like that.”

“Wrong again.”

“Jason?” Dimitra looked at him in question.

“It’s true, the child is the queens.”

Dimitra moved near Jason, “Why are you doing this? Why go through all these lengths – what did we do to you?”

“Because I should be the king and rule the six kingdoms. It is rightfully mine. And the six of you can give it to me willingly, or I can take it by force. The time is drawing near for them to make a choice. They will have to choose – either you and the child live or risk your death.”

“You still haven’t told me who you are.”

“That will all come out in due time. For now, all you need to know is that I am Helix Thorne – future king.”

Dimitra watched as he left the cell, slamming the heavy door behind him. Turning to Jason, she breathed out the breath she’d been holding.

“Amalee must be beside herself.” Dimitra shook her head, “We have to do something, Jason. This has gone on long enough.”

“I know. We will figure this out. I promise.”

Her eyes welled with tears as she thought about her cousin’s child, she would do whatever it took to make sure he was safe… even if it meant her death.
