“You look like shit,” Milo said as he led Colby into his bedroom and stripped out of his work clothes.
“I feel like shit.” Colby admitted, dropping onto the edge of Milo’s bed. Milo came over to him and helped him out of his clothes, then tucked him under the covers and killed the lights.
The bed dipped when Milo climbed in on the other side. “Roll over,” he said. “Someone needs a big spoon.”
Colby turned over, but Milo laughed and kissed the tip of his nose. “Roll the other way. I meant you. You need a big spoon.”
Colby didn’t think so until he obeyed, mostly because he was too tired to argue. But then Milo wrapped his arms around him and plastered his chest against Colby’s back. He whispered things to him about how they’d talk in the morning and how glad he was that Colby had come over, but it all sounded distant. Like it was all part of a dream.
The last thing he was aware of was Milo’s lips pressing gentle kisses to the back of his neck.
CHAPTER 24
MILO
Milo might have fallenasleep playing the role of the big spoon, but when he woke, he was firmly in little spoon territory. He wriggled his ass against the hard cock that was pressed against it, earning him a sleepy chuckle from his boyfriend.
“You could, you know.” Milo pressed into him again. “If you wanted.”
Colby dragged a hand down Milo’s chest and made a sleepy sort of grumbly sound. “I have work soon.”
Milo hated that their shifts were so opposite to each other. He spent a lot of time sleeping or working that he really wanted to spend with Colby. “I need a new job. I hate how little I get to see you.”
Milo couldn’t stop the pout that accompanied his tone of voice. He sounded like a petulant child, deprived of their favorite toy.
“I could always switch shifts around and take over some night shifts. I am the manager. I do have some sway.”
“You don’t have to go to any trouble for me.”
Suddenly Milo found himself on his back with a boyfriend over top of him. “You don’t want me to change my shifts arounda bit because it’s too much of a hassle, but you’ll find a different job.” Colby’s scowl softened and he brushed his mouth over Milo’s. “Let me see what I can do about the schedule first, okay?”
Milo gently dragged his hands up Colby’s sides. “Always the problem solver.”
A strange expression flashed across Colby’s face before he could stop it.
“What is it?”
Colby rolled over onto his back and Milo turned to face him. He snuggled up against Colby’s side.
“It’s dumb.”
“Is it why you came over in the middle of the night when you should’ve been sleeping?”
Colby nodded.
“Then it’s not dumb. Tell me? Let me help?”
“I’m used to being the one they call for things, you know. Jonah was getting harassed at school. I took care of it. Taylor needed a big brother to show him how to do shit. I took care of it.”
“And I’m guessing they didn’t call you?”
“Taylor had a bad date. He wasn’t hurt, but his date took one look at him and left, and then he got upset, hid in the bathroom, and called Nash instead of me.”
Milo tilted his face up and kissed Colby’s cheek. “It’s hard to let go.”
“It was stupid to be upset. I’m glad I’m not the only person Taylor can rely on. It’s why I was so hesitant to start anything with you. I thought Taylor needed you more than I did, but I think I can safely say I was wrong.”
Hearing those words made Milo warm all over. He could remember people saying they loved him, but when was the last time someone needed him? Had there ever been a person who had put Milo on that level of importance before? He liked theidea that Colby found him necessary because it’s how he felt too. Like loving Colby and having him in his life wasn’t an option anymore. He couldn’t walk away now—or ever—without losing a limb.
