She takes a swig of her cranberry vodka, groaning as she sits on the table.

“Take it easy, Rosaline,” Liam scolds her like an angry brother.

She rolls her eyes at him. “Dancing makes me thirsty,” she shouts over the music. “You guys need to get out there and dance. Take my moody cousin out on the dance floor.” She winks, hops off the table, and walks away. But then she turns on her heel and looks at Liam. “That smile you’ve been wearing looks good on you.” Then she’s back on the dance floor.

Liam stays silent for a minute too long, staring at the dance floor. When his eyes land on mine, he gives me a boyish, shy smile, melting me in every way possible.

“Do you want to dance?” I ask.

His eyebrows jog up. “Honestly, I’ve never danced the way they are dancing out there.” He points to the dance floor, where everyone is grinding on each other. “Sure, we danced at the wedding, but nothing like this, and you know I’m not big on dancing.”

Jumping off his lap, I extend my hand. He takes it, sliding off the booth.

“All you need to do,” I say, “is wrap your arms around my waist and sway to the music with me. I’ll guide you.” My voice comes out raspy.

He bites his bottom lip, eyes roaming my body hungrily. “Your ass grinding my dick…I can’t say no to that, baby.”

Music fills the air, and I move my hips in a slow, sensuous rhythm. My hips sway, and Liam’s arms tighten around my waist, pulling me closer to his rock-hard body. Gently, he works his hands down over my hips as I lean my head back onto his chest, the alcohol fueling every shiver of pleasure that courses through me. His fingers dig into my flesh, demanding more, and I gladly oblige, arching my body into his as we move together.

I’ve never felt so free and alive as I do at this moment, or maybe it’s been since Liam. Liam makes me feel sexy, confident, and wanted—something I’ve never experienced before. I feel like a new person. Liam’s hands keep wandering around my body, and I grind deeper into him, relishing the electricity buzzing with each beat. His lips brush the slope of my neck. My body heats up with need. God, I’m not wearing underwear; I can feel myself getting wet.

One song finishes, and the next song plays. Fuck, I need a drink to cool down. He must feel the same—beads of sweat trickle down his face. He smirks when we step off the dance floor, leading me to the bar.

“That was fucking hot. Damn.” He shakes his head. “I’ll dance with you anytime if we can do it like that. My dick agrees.”

I giggle like a schoolgirl with a crush. His face is flushed, and his lips turn into a smirk.

Liam grabs our drinks while I wait aside at the bar. My eyes roam around the bustling club until my eyes drop on two women pointing toward where Liam is. The woman pointing has hearts in her eyes, cinnamon hair, and an hourglass figure. She storms toward him with her short black dress showing her shaped ass. Liam walks toward me with our drinks just as she catches up.

“Hey, Liam, is that you?” she calls out, her voice dripping like honey.

Liam turns to meet her sparkling eyes, and he smiles. He knows her, that much is clear. I wonder if he’s slept with her.

“Hey, Crystal.”

Crystal. Crystal, his first. She must be the one who broke his heart, and now he wants nothing to do with relationships. She snakes around, wrapping him in a hug.

“Oh, my, gosh, it’s been so long, Liam. You look good, babe.” Her hand brushes his chest up and down.

Liam makes no effort to remove them. A surge of jealousy twists in my stomach. I move a little closer. She has no knowledge of me or ignores my presence.

“You look good too, Crystal. Are you here visiting?” His arms are still wrapped around her in a hug.

“Yeah, I’ll be here for a month.” She finally notices me and gives me a tight, fake smile. “Girlfriend?” She tosses her head up, pointing at me.

Realization hits Liam, and he releases her. Hope spreads through me like a wildflower.Say it, please.

Clearing his throat, he shakes his head. “This is my friend, Sophie.”

I’ve never felt so humiliated. Close to five months of being with each other day and night, and all I am is a friend. A fuck buddy. My heart deflates, and Crystal’s shoulders relax.

Completely ignoring me, she turns to Liam with a beaming smile. He smiles at her the same way. What is he thinking? Maybe he’s thinking of their first time and reminiscing about all the times he fucked her and went down on her.

“We should catch up sometime, Liam. We can talk about all the good times we had.” She winks, and he laughs.

I can’t take this any longer. Maybe it’s her he wants. After all, I’m just a friend. They have a history together, and he and I have only known each other for five months. I excuse myself, walking outside for some fresh air, leaving Liam there with Crystal, whom he seems eager to see.

Standing up against the club’s brick wall, I pull out my phone from my handbag and dial for an Uber to pick me up. A light breeze feathers past me. My eyes sting with suppressed tears. How can I be such an idiot for putting myself out there to be treated like rubbish once again?Afriend. I thought I meant more to him than friendship. Apparently not.
