CHAPTER 24
Sophie
The night had been going so wellbefore Crystal showed up that I could still fill his erection pressed against my ass. A part of me wants to go back in there and pull him away from her. But then why, if I’m only a friend? Not even a date. A friend you fuck and grind your dick on.
“Sophie,” a familiar voice calls out from the parking lot.
Chad appears in front of me. It’s been months since I’ve seen him. It feels like ages ago that Liam pinned me in the restroom.
“Damn, you look beautiful. What are you doing here all alone?” He shoves his hands in his pockets, unsure how to greet me. Chad’s good looks would be incredibly hard for any woman to resist. He has that boyish handsome smile, although it does nothing for me—no sparks or chemistry.
“Thank you, Chad. It’s nice seeing you again. I’m just waiting for my ride.” My voice comes out raspy as I swallow the knots in my throat.
“I’ll wait with you—I can’t leave a beautiful woman all alone. Or I can give you a ride—or we can go back in and have a drink.” He smiles, a glint in his eyes. Chad is different—not a heartbreaker type of man. He’s one of those men you would cozy up with by the fire and watch a cheesy rom-com with.
A robust and husky voice roars toward us. “She’s with me.”
I roll my eyes.
Liam reaches for me, wanting to wrap his arms around me possessively, but I swat him away. Liam raises his eyebrows and grinds his teeth.
Fuck him.
I glare at Liam with such intensity that if my eyes had lasers, he’d be dead.
I surprise myself when a laugh escapes my lips. “Oh, no, I’m not. My friend here was just heading back inside. We’re just pals, nothing more.” I chuckle some more. God, maybe it’s the alcohol, or maybe this man just makes me crazy.
Liam’s chest rises and falls.
I can see him from the corner of my eye. However, my smile is pinned on Chad. Rubbing my hands up and down his chest, I say, “I’d love to get a drink sometime, Chad. I’ll call you.” I don’t plan on it, and it’s wrong to lead him on, but part of me wants to see how the asshole reacts.
Poor Chad seems confused and uncomfortable from Liam’s grimacing stare. Chad nods with a smile. Maybe he gets it, what I’m doing. “Talk to you soon.” He walks into the club with a wink.
Liam
What the actualfuck is going on? Sophie stands with her arms wrapped around her chest, leaning against the wall. Fucking pretty boy Chad scans her body as if it belongs to him. He winks and walks into the club after she offers to have a drink with him. Her phone pings. She then looks at the message, removing herself from the wall. She walks toward a black Nissan car.
Without sparing me a glance, she shouts, “My ride is here!”
Hauling my ass toward her, I lift her and throw her over my shoulder, then spank her ass.
“Put me down, Liam, you fucking asshole. We are fucking done.”
Absolutely fucking not.
“What are you doing, Sophie?” I shout, frustrated and angry at her. Things were going so well. We were all over each other. How did the night go to shit?
As we leave the club, the bass and laughter fade away until all I can hear is our footsteps on the pavement as I head to my car. Leaning Sophie against the Camaro, I pin her in place. My gaze shifts down toward her lips, which are pressed firmly together, and her look is one of sheer deadly anger.
“What the fuck is your problem, Sophie?” I bite out.
She stabs her sharp nails in my chest. “What’s my problem? Seriously, you have to ask?”
I raise an eyebrow, lost in why she’s being feisty and pissed at me.
“Why don’t you just go back in there with your ex, Liam? You obviously enjoy having your arms wrapped around her waist, her hands raking over your chest. My mistake, we are only friends, Liam, so I’m sure it’s okay for me to have others roam their hands up and down my body, and I’ll do the same to them.”
Realization hits me with a punch to the face.Fuck. I’m not good at this shit. I’ve never had a woman at my side. Sophie lowers her eyelids to hide the hurt I have inflicted. I press my hands firmly against the roof of the car, trapping her inside. Tilting toward her, I lean in to kiss her lips. But instead of connecting with them, she turns away from me. Skimming my lips along her soft, creamy skin, the scent of coconut invades me; she smells delicious.
