Probably feeling pressured and exposed, she turned and accused me, “I’m crying because of you.”

“What did I do?”

“Nothing. That’s what you did, Soros. Absolutelynothing!”

Once again, she stormed past me. This time to the bed where she sat down against the headboard and pulled her knees up in front of her.

“Tania. You’re driving me insane. Stop running from me. I wish I could access your emotions through telepathy and understand what’s going on, but I can’t. You need to tell me.”

“I don’tneedto do anything. You didn’t bother sending me as much as a polite greeting in four years, so don’t think for a second that you’re entitled toanythingfrom me.”

Climbing onto the bed I knelt in front of her. “Look at me.”

Tania refused and demonstratively looked out the window.

Frustrated, I sighed. “You’re the most confusing woman in the world. If you’re angry that I didn’t send you a greeting, then why do you keep rejecting me now that I’m right in front of you?”

“Because Ihateyou!”

I jerked back, unprepared for such harsh words.

“I hate that I didn’t matter to you and that I was the one left on Earth missing you while you went on adventures and forgot all about me.”

Her accusation felt unfair and so I shook my head and asked, “You think that I didn’t miss you?”

She gave me a defiant glare.

“I missed you day and night, Tania. But you’re the one who said that it would be hard to hear from me and not be able to touch or hug me. When I couldn’t bear it any longer, I reached out and asked K’rem to put me in contact with you and he told me you had asked for help to get me removed from your memory. Do you have any idea how hurtful it was to hear that?”

Tania didn’t take time to absorb what I just said, instead she fired right back at me. “I would rather forget you than let you get in the way of me moving on with someone else. It’s like loving a ghost that I can’t touch.”

Reaching for her right hand, I placed it on my chest with an intense gaze in my eyes. “Does this feel like a ghost to you?”

She swallowed hard and looked at her hand on my chest. “No.”

Since she didn’t move her hand away, but gently moved it up to my collarbone, I cupped her face and leaned in. With an intense gaze, I let my nose touch hers. “You’re crazy if you think I haven’t missed you as much as you’ve missed me.”

“That’s impossible.” Her tone was softer now and my insides melted from the way she nuzzled her nose against mine.

“Tania… don’t tell me that you forgot what we promised each other.”

“I didn’t forget my feelings for you. You were the one who forgot me,” she whispered in a breathy voice.

Feeling emboldened by her words, I nibbled on her lower lip. “As if that’s possible.”

CHAPTER 9

Rogue Lips

Tania

When Soros placed my hand on his chest and nuzzled my nose, the overload of confusing thoughts in my brain melted away. For years I had missed him with a fierce intensity and now that he was finally close to me, it was impossible to remember the reasons why I shouldn’t touch him.

Despite my anger with Soros, my lips went rogue and him back like the starving woman I was. My fingers and tongue didn’t want to argue or fight with him. They wanted to taste, feel, and play, and somehow my body managed to overrule my wounded heart and silence my skeptical mind.

When I let my tongue swirl around his tongue while stroking my hands across his strong chest and shoulders, Soros made a guttural sound in the back of his throat.

“Say that you’re sorry,” I begged him because I desperately needed to hear those words.
