Chapter One

Bria Thomas

Growing up in the small town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was everything.

It was full of sun, sand, and water.

But life wasn’t always a beach.

In fact, in high school life was just a beach. Or a bitch to be really specific.

The boys at her high school were small minded douche bags that treated her like garbage.

They didn’t appreciate her curves, and made her not appreciate or love them either.

Her best friend, Lola didn’t give a fuck if people didn’t like her curves and told them that on a daily basis.

She was a badass of epic proportions and Bria longed to be like her best friend.

But she was quiet and had a hard time with people and how they treated her.

She didn’t have high self-esteem and struggled with it. And after hearing some of the boys say nasty things about her, and how fat she was, her self-esteem plummeted more.

She wore big, baggy clothes and covered up as much as possible.

Forgoing even wearing a swimsuit in the summer in case someone come by and see her.

Lola would try to coax her into wearing a swimsuit and go with her to the popular hang out spot for the kids their age, but Bria would always decline.

She longed to swim though. It was her favorite thing and by the end of high school, Lola had been right by her side and refused to let her feel like she was worthless. And she finally learned that those boys were just that. Boys.

Stupid, dumb, unable to see how gorgeous she was boys.

She was content to live without boys like that and it seemed that in her town that was all that was there.

So she was set.

She had enough on her plate to worry about as it was without having to worry about a man.

After meeting her new best friends, she learned that it was better to love your curves than to resent them.

And she learned that lesson when she went to her first class. Finally.

Lola had tried for years for her to see it, but it finally clicked. And she loved her curves.

She was taught so many lessons in her classes and how often most companies didn’t have plus sized models, but that most women preferred them.

She knew how important it was to be diverse and she took each lesson to heart.

Learning how to accent the body with all types of clothes. She started to tailor all of her clothes and when she went to lunch one day, a couple of girls were sitting at a table with Lola.

They called her over, exclaiming over her shirt and asked her where she got it.

She told them she made it and after they bombarded her with questions and exclamations of how gorgeous it was and how they longed for shirts that fit them that perfectly, she told them that she would make them one too. And that was the beginning of their friendship.

When she told them where she and Lola lived and how wonderful it was, they were on board with visiting.

But when you visit Myrtle Beach, it grows on you.
