He didn’t want her to leave him, because she could. Being human, she didn’t have the same thoughts and feelings he did.
He had to win her over and complete their bond where his magic was the most potent, but until then she had all the rights in the world to turn him down and never see him again.
And he would have to obey her wishes. It was built into being a mate. If they didn’t want you around, you couldn’t be. It had to be their choice and theirs alone.
He wanted to see what was in her heart, but his magic didn’t work that way with her.
Yes he could see if she wanted a burger for lunch, or small things like that, but to see her true feelings wasn’t allowed.
He would just have to trust in their newly forming bond and hope that she didn’t run scared.
Yeah, that was going to be fun.
He held her in his arms a little tighter and shut his eyes, that hope still in his heart.
Chapter 8
Brenya
Abuzzing sound woke her from the best sleep she ever had.
Then Jensynn’s big body moved, and his warmth was no longer behind her, his arms no longer holding her close.
She didn’t like that. Not at all.
She peeked open one eye to see him pull a pair of jeans over his spectacular ass and then walk from the room.
He had his phone in his hand, and she sighed, needing to use the bathroom anyway.
She pulled his shirt on that was lying on the floor and walked toward the bathroom, she stopped, hearing him talking on the phone and while she didn’t want to overhear him on the phone, his voice was loud, and she walked to the door of the bedroom and looked out.
Jensynn was in the middle of the living room, running his hand over his face and over his hair.
He was irritated, “Fuck Brander. What do you mean there is a problem?”
He paused and then went on, “Nick and I had a reason for leaving. You can’t handle it by yourself?”
He was talking to his brother, that was normal, until he kept going, “I can’t get back yet. I haven’t had a chance to tell my mate anything and she will run scared if I just spring this on her. This isn’t something just brought up in regular conversation Brander. I need a few more days.”
He paused again, listening to something his brother was saying and went on.
“Seriously, Brander. She isn’t like us. She won’t just accept me or my life up there so easily. She’s a human for fuck’s sake. What do you want me to do? Huh? Show her my magic and my ears? Then she will run from me and I will suffer from mate withdrawal. You know she won’t have me stay. And then shewillsuffer too. I have to do this right.”
He pinched the bridge of his nose and shut his eyes, his face a mask of anger and frustration. After a second he opened his eyes, and let out a sigh of defeat.
“Fuck, fine. Give me at least two days and I hope to all that is holy in this world that she doesn’t leave me, because if she does because I rushed this, I will kick your fucking ass. Handle things there for now. I will be back soon.”
He hung up the phone and ran his hand over his face, and then pinched the bridge of his nose again.
He looked up and saw her standing in the doorway, and froze.
“Uh, hi.”
She crossed her arms over her chest, “Care to explain what I just heard?”
His body went even more stiff, “What all did you hear?”
She let out an annoyed huff, “Oh, I don’t know. Something about magic, ears and me running scared? Oh, and the small detail that you are leaving in two days?”
