Until he slammed on his brakes after passing by a small clearing set back from the road.

He had driven past a little bit, but backed up and pulled in, and a little way inside the clearing, almost hidden by the trees was Reid’s truck.

Kian jumped from the car as soon as he had it in park, and she did the same.

He raced to where it was and looked in the windows.

“He isn’t here. But his phone is.”

He pulled the handle, but the door was locked.

He went to his car and got a tire iron, “He is gonna kill me for hurting his truck, but I have to check his phone.”

He smashed the front window into pieces and unlocked the door.

He picked up the phone and cursed at the lock screen.

Mila knew the password though and unlocked it for him, and Kian’s face went pale.

“Something happened to him Mila.”

He handed her the phone and on the front screen was the notepad app open.

There was a note for her on it.

It said,

Mila, my love, my life. If you find this, just know I did everything in my power to protect you and to keep you safe. To keep everyone safe from him. And if I told you his name, he could come after you and I refuse to let him anywhere near any of the people I love. Especially you. I had to do what he told me to in order to save my friend’s life and I hate that I have to leave you. That you possibly won’t ever know what happened to me. Just know that I love you. I have from the beginning and will until I find you in the next life. You are my everything. My heart, my soul, my very existence. I am sorry I have to leave you, but I will do all I can to get back to you. You will keep me going at all costs. I love you my love. Thank you for showing me what it was like to have it. To be given the love only a goddess can give.

I love you, Reid.

She felt her knees buckle and Kian caught her before she hit the ground.

He searched the woods, “I need Reid’s phone. I have to see what is going on.”

She blindly handed it to him, her heart breaking in her chest and feeling as though her soul was being ripped from her body.

Kian scrolled through the messages and found a few from their friend Xavier.

But when he called Xavier’s phone, it went straight to voicemail.

Kian cursed and then Reid’s phone rang in his hand.

They both went still, and Mila looked up, trying to breathe through the pain.

Kian answered the phone, putting it on speaker. “Hello?”

“Reid? You sound different. I really need to talk to you. Something happened that I have to tell you about. I need to warn you.”

“This is Reid’s brother Kian. Who is this?”

The voice went silent for a second, “Kian? I have heard of you. Where is Reid? I have to talk to him right now. I have been trying to get in contact with him for hours.”

Kian turned wide eyes on her and then said, “He is missing. No one has seen him for a while, and he left a goodbye note on his phone to his fiancée.”

“Fuck! Shit! Fuck! We were too late, Dmitri.”

They heard a man in the background swearing as well, “We are on our way to Silver Springs right now. My plane is leaving in a half hour. I had a feeling I had to come.”
