Chapter 4
Emery
After Trace left, she shut the door and leaned against it.
Oh lord that man. He was sexy as hell and potent. There was something about him that drew her like a moth to a flame and damn it, she couldn’t wait to get burned.
She knew it was insane to feel so enamored with someone she barely knew, but for some reason, she knew he was meant to be hers.
Picking up the coffee he brought her, she took a sip.
Vanilla, caramel and the hint of coffee burst on her tongue and she loved that he thought of her.
And how he kissed her? She felt her cheeks warm. It was her first kiss. Not that she meant to still be a virgin at 20, but life happened.
Well, not life, but two big brothers who were ridiculously protective of her and chased any man or boy off with just a look.
She'd tried dating. Really, she did. But Reid and Kian were not to be thwarted and thought that no man was good enough for their baby sister.
Since Kian was just a year older than her, he was always around. He'd taken it upon himself to warn all the boys in their school away from her.
He'd done that since they were kids and were too young to date but had gone overboard when she grew older and started noticing boys.
While it had been cute at first, and she loved that no one held up to the standards they had in their head for her, she got upset when her friends were asked on dates, talked about kissing and she didn’t do any of those things.
Kian and Reid knew how excited she'd been for her first high school dance. They knew that she wanted to go so badly. She was so angry with them when no one asked her to prom.
Or out on a date at all. One boy who was new in town asked her out and she had accepted. Kian heard about it and before the end of the day, the boy told her that he changed his mind and couldn’t take her out.
She loved her big brothers. Truly, she did. She just hated that they acted like they were her father.
Even her dad wasn’t as bad as Kian and Reid. Although he was the one who gave them the idea.
Her mom was royally pissed at the three of them after that, but no matter what either of them wanted, Kian, Reid and her dad all knew what ‘was best’ for her.
Her dad was a good man. And she loved her parents immensely. They had been through thick and thin together and still held strong and their marriage was as happy as ever.
Her mom was from Scotland, and after Emery had graduated from high school, her mom wanted to move back to her home country she loved.
Her dad had gone along but the boys wanted to stay. Emery had gone with them for a month and loved the culture there.
She hadn’t wanted to stay though. She loved her life at home, and she missed her best friend and her brothers. So she'd come back to spend time with Karalee and to find a job or think about college or whatever.
Not really knowing what she wanted in life yet. She hadn’t found anything that made her truly happy, except when she was crocheting.
Her dad had come home when his mom had been injured but couldn’t stay for long. The two of them had opened a bed and breakfast in Scotland, so their mom couldn’t come with him, but sent her love.
Ailith called every day to check on Grandma Viv and did what she could from Scotland to help.
Emery loved her sweet parents and talked to them as much as she could. Her dad was happy she was staying with Grandma Viv and so was her mom.
Ken and Ailith Collins were good people and she missed them every day. She needed to call her mom to let her know she made it.
And Karalee. Oops. She was just so stricken with what happened with Trace yesterday that she had forgotten.
And she probably needed to call her brothers. They were probably freaking out that she hadn’t checked in.
Reid and Kian were cops in their town but had grown tired of it. They'd been looking for new jobs but hadn’t had much luck. They had both quit to move here with her. She knew that Reid was truly thinking about moving his roots here and Kian had followed in his footsteps.
