Sienna nodded and the nurse carefully checked her over, and cleaned the wound, then stitched it.
She put a bandage on, and Sienna decided now was the time to ask.
“Two men were just brought in. One is my brother, the other is the love of my life.” Her voice was still quiet, hardly more than a whisper, but Sienna had never heard a more beautiful sound.
The nurse gasped, “Oh no. You poor girl. They are both in surgery right now, but when they are out, I will show you which rooms they are in.”
Sienna nodded, “Thank you.”
The nurse grabbed her hand softly, “You're welcome.”
Stacy walked behind the curtain and smiled. “Hey there. Can we talk now?”
Sienna nodded and patted the bed. The nurse walked out of the small room and shut the door behind her.
Stacy sat on the bed and sighed. “This entire night was crazy huh?”
Sienna nodded and quietly said, “Not what I expected at all.”
Stacy laughed, “You got that right. I took over for the boys after they left the station earlier. I was waiting for Jake to come in to start his shift. It was his night again. But he never made it in. Not that it matters. The town is usually quiet and often the boys end up just going home. They have no reason to stay. Well aside from lately anyway. Those break ins have been running them all over town.”
Stacy waved her hand, dismissing it, “So, I didn’t worry when Jake didn’t show up. He had done this before, and I knew he had it under control. He didn’t need to check in. He was capable. But then my quiet night was anything but. Your call came in and that was that. It was terrifying. I came as fast as I could. Brek and Trace are like brothers to me, and knowing Trace was hurt, well let’s just say I don’t want to have that happen again.”
Sienna nodded and Stacy sighed, “So what happened?”
Sienna sighed too, “I don’t know how well my voice will work. I apologize. If I end up having to write it out, know this is my normal. I have been without a voice for most of my life after I went through trauma and tonight for some reason, it came back.”
Stacy gave her a weird look but nodded. “Alright. Go on. I will understand if you have to write out your story.”
Sienna let out a breath and then began to describe the nightmare she had just been through.
Telling Stacy every detail she could. Not wanting to forget a single detail even though she wished she could.
Hated that she had another terrible and terrifying thing seared into her memories with aching clarity.
Her eyes started to tear up, and she bit her lip hard and Stacy pulled her in for a hug. “I am sorry you had to see that. Had to deal with that.”
Sienna sniffled, “I am too. It brings too many things to the surface that should have stayed buried.”
Sienna looked up at Stacy and said, “While I was helping Trace, I recognized him. He is my brother. You see, when I lost my voice, it was because my entire family was killed right in front of my eyes. A man stabbed them all and tried to kill me too. He didn’t succeed, but the shock I went into, with being almost killed and seeing my parents die as I watched, took my voice. I thought Trace was gone. I saw him get stabbed, except he survived. He went missing when he left to get help. I still don’t know how he is alive today. How he survived the woods and his wounds and everything.”
She stopped for a minute, taking a deep, shaking breath and trying not to cry at the memories that she faced, “The police wrote him off as dead after searching for a few weeks in those woods and finding no trace of him. They told us in no uncertain terms that he would have never survived through it all. Not with him being severely wounded and the woods known to have bears and wolves throughout them. I had to bury him along with my parents. We didn’t have a body, but his name is on my parent’s headstone. I never thought I would see him again. I haven’t seen him in years and years and seeing him brought back what I thought was lost to me. Not only my brother, but my voice.”
Stacy was crying at this point and Sienna could stand it no longer and started sobbing again on the woman’s shoulder.
“You are such an amazing woman Sienna. Truly you are. I am in awe of you.” Stacy said as they finally pulled apart.
“Thank you for saying that.”
Stacy smiled at her, “I have a feeling we will be good friends.”
Sienna smiled, “I haven’t had a friend in a very long time. I would really like that.”
Stacy hugged her again and the nurse knocked on the door and walked in.
“How is it going in here?”
Sienna gave a small smile, “It’s good. Do you have any news for me? Am I okay to wait for them to get out of surgery?”
