“Can we leave?” Erica asked.

It was like they had one singular mind.

“No, you may not,” Newman annoyedly replied.

“You saw the posts already; you know what she said about me,” Angelica said.

“You mean the things I did not say. It was Jacob Boruta who faked those posts and tried to cause beef between us. Obviously, it worked,” I said with irritation in my voice.

“Who the hell is Jacob Boruta?” Angelica asked.

“He’s the guy that leaked my nudes,” I replied.

Angelica raised her eyebrows and stayed silent.

“I saw the posts. Angelica, I completely understand your anger and frustration, but you cannot lash out like that on school grounds. Violence and fighting are strictly prohibited on campus. You have put yourself and your sister at risk for suspension, which means you wouldn’t be able to play for a considerable amount of time,” Newman explained.

Angelica slapped her leg in anger, and Erica stood up.

“That’s not fair. I was only trying to end the fight, and my sister had a good reason. She was defending herself,” Erica said.

“Do you know how many times we’ve been bullied by students who go to this school? All the disgusting insults that people have called us on social media and in the halls,” Angelica said.

“No matter what you think, I didn’t contribute to that. I know the type of person that I can be, but I’m not an idiot. Why in the world would I want to pick a fight with you two? What reason could I possibly have?” I asked.

“You like starting fights for one, so either that or you’re mad because they keep trashing your little book club room,” Erica pointed out.

“What does that have to do with anything?” I asked.

“Hey, hey, hey. Erica, chill,” Angelica replied.

I looked at her in surprise.

“What?” Erica asked.

“Maybe it wasn’t her, alright? She hangs out with the basketball team, but that doesn’t mean she’s one of them,” Angelica said.

“Birds of a feather flock together. Remember how you used to say that?” Erica asked.

“It still doesn’t make sense why Heather would only direct her post at me. Those idiots used to go after both of us at the same time,” Angelica said.

“I don’t know,” Erica replied.

“Alright, alright. Enough. Erica, sit back down, please,” Newman ordered.

Erica hesitantly obeyed. Principal Newman sighed and clasped his hands together.

“Alright, look, I don’t want to suspend anyone. The Johanssons have big district games coming up, and the playoffs are on the horizon. You two also don’t get in much trouble…inside of school, anyway. I’ve heard rumors about fighting at the Central Lake Plaza, but I’m not going to get involved in that,” Newman said.

I scoffed.

“So, you’re letting them off the hook because they’re volleyball stars? Seriously?” I asked.

“They’re not the only ones off the hook. Listen, Heather, I know you’ve had rough times in the past with bullying. You’re a great student, and you run the book club, which helps the Ivy League-bound students,” Newman said.

“Wait, I’m not getting in trouble?” I asked.

“We’re free to go?” Angelica and Erica asked simultaneously.
