“I have evidence that your brother, my father, Fergus MacDaniel killed my wife and child,” I said.
“And you expect us to believe you over Fergus!” someone shouted from the back. “He’s our brother!”
As I looked at my father, his face was filled with a smug expression that I couldn’t ignore. He held onto the belief that they would not cast their votes in favor of his death, but they would once I was finished.
“I don’t expect anyone to believe me, but I do expect you to believe the evidence,” I said. “He doesn’t deserve your loyalty and I’ll prove it.”
“Strap him down, Joker,” Grimm ordered, his grip tightening on Fergus as he desperately struggled.
Once Joker had him tightly bound, Grimm stared directly into the eyes of his brothers. “I don’t do this lightly. Fergus is my blood. My brother. A Sinner. But I’ve seen the evidence against him. Talked to the prospect that helped him. He did what he’s being accused of.”
“Who’s the prospect?” one of the brother’s asked.
“Weasel,” Grimm said.
Someone began circulating the incriminating photograph of the prospect bribing the cops.
“Now looking at this picture, do you understand the gravity of what’s happened?” Grimm asked. “This prospect was sent byFergus to pay off the cops who were involved in the deaths of two innocents.”
“And we’re supposed to take his word for it?” a Sinner asked. “We don’t know him.”
“You don’t know him, but I do,” Grimm said. “I’m not expecting you to take his word, I’m expecting you to take mine as Prez. As your brother.”
“Fuck you! My own flesh and blood accusing me of shit I had nothing to do with. Maybe that bitch deserved what happened to her.”
My feet were moving before I even realized it. My hand gripped Fergus’s neck, and I squeezed. “My wife and kid didn’t deserve any of this! Your problem is with me. It wasn’t with them.”
His eyes bulged, his face grew red, and his gasps for breath filled the air. I heard Grimm calling my name, but I couldn’t let him get away with this. He took them from me and now it was time he paid for it. As someone forcefully pulled me away from him, he coughed violently, struggling to regain his breath.
“You’re a piece of shit, Fergus!” I shouted as I struggled against their hold. “You’re so weak you had to go after a woman!”
He started laughing then glared at me. “You’re a fucking disgrace. You’re no son of mine.”
“I won’t argue with you about that. I’m not your son. Haven’t been for a long time. But this is something you’ll pay for Fergus. If it’s the last thing I do.”
“What did Weasel have to say?” a Sinner asked.
“He confirmed everything. Fergus paid off the cops,” Grimm said. “They were involved in the death of my cousin’s wife and child. Made it look like it was sanctioned by the Sinners.”
“Weasel don’t know his head from his ass!” Fergus shouted. “You can’t believe nothing he says.”
“Maybe not,” I said. “But my brother knew a lot. He gave you up right before he took his final breath.”
Fergus’s eyes widened, and a wave of anger flooded his gaze. “You killed him! You killed my son!”
I was taken aback by the intensity of his anger over Agent Revels’ death, but I swiftly concealed my astonishment. “Everyone involved in the death of my wife and son will pay Fergus, including you. And just like you will pay, so did he. My condolences.”
I winked. He struggled, trying to get to me, but he couldn’t. Those ropes had him secured.
“I should have killed you when I killed that bitch that birth you,” he sneered. “Buried you both in the fucking desert.”
Gasps filled the air as the Sinners reacted. I think I heard both Hannibal and Schizo mutter fuck under their breath. It felt like someone had sucked all the air from my lungs. As I glanced at Grimm, his shock mirrored my own.
He stood in front of my father, his hand firmly gripping his face. “What the fuck did you say?”
Rage coursed through my veins, causing my body to vibrate. All these years I thought she had abandoned me. Once I got older, the hurt had diminished some, but I always wondered what I could have done different to make her stay. To make her stay and protect me from this bastard. Now he was telling me she didn’t leave, but he killed her. Now I knew she didn’t have a choice.
“Yes, I killed the bitch!” Fergus shouted and Grimm released his face. “She wanted to leave me! So, I fucked her while I choked her until she fucking died! Nobody leaves me!”
