I place a light kiss on her lips. Razor comes back into the room laughing.
"It’s best that you don't know anything."
"I assume she got her way?" Razor asks, still laughing.
"No, she didn't. Get me the hell out of here."
"Austin wait...what the hell?!" Razor hands me my clothes, and I painfully start getting dressed. "He said you could leave in a few days, Austin."
"There’s no way in hell I'm letting anybody in this place come near me with a needle. Not after someone dressed up like a damn nurse threatens you."
"Austin..."
"No, Kira, we’re leaving now.”
Razor goes to look out the door to make sure the coast is clear.
"Do you need help?"
"Please." She walks over and helps me get dressed.
"Hurry up, D!"
"Shut up, Raz! I'm trying." I stumble looking for my shoes. “Where are my shoes?"
"I've got them." Kira bends down and puts my shoes on, staring up to me. "Are you sure about this, Austin? You could hurt yourself."
I grab her hand and pull her towards the door. "You heard the doctor. He was going to release me in a few days. I'm fine, sweetheart, but we got to go now."
"Follow me." Razor ushers us towards the emergency exit as quickly as possible, so we don't garner any attention. At that moment, I hear the ding of the elevator and the voice of Agent Douglas asking to see me.
“The Feds," I whisper as I grip Kira's hand tighter, looking over my shoulder. "Speed up, Razor. The damn Feds are here."
Razor hands me the keys to my truck and glances back towards the two agents. "You two go. I'm going to run interference."
I pull Kira down the stairs, and Razor heads back towards my hospital room. "Meet me at Roger's. I'll send Mike to come and get you."
"No, don't send anyone for me. I’ll get there."
I agree, and we head out of the hospital while Razor heads in the opposite direction. Handing the keys to Kira, I help her into the driver’s seat, and I manage to climb into the passenger seat.
“Drive,” I say as the adrenaline from our quick exit from the hospital wears off and the pain from my injuries start to set in.Shit, I wish I would have gotten that pain medication.
“You look a little pale, Austin. You all right?” Kira asks with concern in her voice. Grimacing from the pain, I don’t answer. There’s no need to make her worry more than she already is. Luckily, we made it to Roger’s before she is able to ask me again.
"Stop here." I put my hand on Kira's thigh, giving it a small squeeze as she puts the truck in park.
I slowly exit the truck and make my way around to the driver’s side to help Kira out. "Demon, you have to tell me what's going on."
I get out of my truck and walk around to help her out.
"It's best that you don't know, Kira. You can't tell the Feds what you don't know."
I walk up to Roger's house and knock on the door. Before she can protest, the door opens. Roger looks confused and then a smile crosses his face as he pulls me into a hug.
He ushers the both of us in the house. "What the fuck, D!? What the hell are you doing here?"
"The Feds," is all I say, and he gives me a look that shuts me up immediately, mouthing the words, “I'm not alone.” I nod, letting him know I understand.
