"Sure thing, honey. I’ll just go and look at those tapes and see if we can find out who the nurse is." Razor leaves me alone with a seething Kira.

"Before you say anything, you have to listen, Kira. I have to do this." I place my one good hand on her hip. My other is still in a sling.

"Austin, I understand the need to keep us safe, but first you have to heal. You are in no kind of shape to protect our child or me. When did the doctor say you might be released?" Kira places a light kiss on my lips.

"He said in a couple of days I should be good to go as long as I take it easy."

"And is this what you call taking it easy?" She gives a light chuckle.

"Kira, I just can't sit here! Someone is after you, and I’ll be damned if anybody hurts you or my child," I shout. disregarding her intention to make light of the situation.

"Austin, a couple of days isn't that long. What if I talk to the doctor and see if he will release you tomorrow? Lie down and just let me try."

I agree and lie back down as she walks out of the room and returns with the doctor a few minutes later.

He smiles and flips through his clipboard. "Mr. Tyler, I hear that you’re ready to go home?"

"Yeah. The sooner, the better."

He peers up from his clipboard and approaches me, placing the clipboard on the end of the bed. "Well let's take a look at your vitals and your injuries, and we’ll see what we can do."

He raises the head of the bed. "Please sit up, Mr. Tyler." He places the stethoscope on my back then moves to my chest. "Have you had any shortness of breath?"

"No."

He allows me to lie back then shines a light in both of my eyes. "Any headaches of any kind?"

"No, the only discomfort that I have is from my arm."

He moves the hospital gown to access the wound on my chest. "How about the wound to your chest? Any discomfort?"

"It's sore, but that's to be expected. I was shot." I eye the doctor. He smiles while pulling the bandage back and pressing around the wound.

"Does this hurt?"

"No."

“Would you tell me if it hurt?” he asks as he walks over to the other side of the bed to inspect the wound to my arm.

“No,” I respond.

He repeats the same actions to my arm as he did my chest. "Hmmm. Any pain?"

"Nothing I can't handle."

He places the bandage back on my arm and nods his head. "Well, Mr. Tyler, I see no reason why you can't leave, but it will have to be a couple of days from now. I need to run a couple more tests and then you can be out of here. I’ll send the nurse to gather some blood and give you some pain medication for that arm." He walks away before stopping and turning his attention towards Kira then looking to me. "Mr. Tyler, you’re one lucky man. If I were you, whatever line of work you’re in, you need to get out of it."

"You don't know shit about me, doc!" I yell as Kira places her hand on top of mine, giving it a squeeze to calm my anger.

"That may be so, but gunshot wounds like yours always happen for a reason. Whoever shot you wanted you dead."

I look over to Kira when he walks out the door.

She places a kiss on my lips and sits down beside the bed. "See? You can leave in a couple of days, baby."

"We’ll see. Now, why didn't you tell me about the Feds?"

She sighs and takes a seat on the bed next to me, and I wrap my good arm around her waist, careful not to aggravate my wounds. "Austin, it wasn't a big deal. I don't know anything. You made sure of that. What are they investigating?"
