I dug my fingers into his shoulders when my orgasm rushed through me.

“Zo!”

He moaned as he lifted me up and dropped me down on his shaft until he released with my name on his lips. We basked in the afterglow of our lovemaking until the sun rose over the horizon.

Our remainingtime in Belize passed by quickly . Although we didn’t get to remain the entire week because of Vincenzo’s legal troubles, we made sure the time we shared was well worth it. We made love under the stars and christened every room in the villa, even on the beach. My time with Vincenzo was magical. But now it’s time to get back to work.

“Hello, Dr. Lombardo,” Dr. Daniels said. “Long time no see.”

I had to consciously keep myself from reacting to the sound of the voice that sent a shiver down my spine. I didn’t know what it was about him, but he gave me weird vibes.

I handed the patient file back to Connie, the head nurse, who was seated at the nurse’s station, and turned to face him. When he took a step closer to me, I took a small step back to remove him from my space. He frowned, but quickly masked his displeasure.

“Hello, Dr. Daniels,” I greeted. “You’re back?”

It was the only thing I could think of. I didn’t want to have a conversation with him because I didn’t like the feeling I got when he was around. I didn’t like the looks he gave me. I liked to maintain my distance from him and keep my conversations with him limited.

“I am. I’ve been back for a few weeks, now.” He ran his hand through his hair. “I guess we’ve been on different rotations, and I heard you went on a trip. That’s a little out of the ordinary for you, Isabella. You’re usually so dedicated to your work.”

I didn’t miss the tinge of anger in his voice and the use of my first name, which was totally unprofessional. Why would he be angry about what I did on my own time? And why insinuate because I’d taken a trip I wasn’t dedicated to my work?

I held up my finger, wiggling it to show him the engagement ring Vincenzo gave me, hoping he would get the hint. “Yes, my fiancé took me to Belize on sort of a pre-honeymoon.”

“You’re getting married?” His voice rose a little, his brows pulled together and a hint of red covering his cheeks.

“Yes.”

I looked over his shoulder when I saw Vincenzo carrying a large bouquet of flowers walking towards me. We had been back in the country for almost a week, and I hadn’t seen him except over FaceTime since then. We hadn’t discussed living arrangements yet, but the distance was depressing.

Seeing him, the joy and excitement radiating through me was off the charts. When we locked eyes and a genuine smile crossed his face, my heart raced against my chest, causing me to forget all about Dr. Creepy standing in front of me.

We need to seriously discuss our living arrangements.

I walked around Dr. Daniels, not excusing myself, to get to Vincenzo as quickly as I could. I hadn’t expected to see him before the engagement party tonight, but I was so excited he was here. I hugged him tightly and gave him a peck on the lips. Since our time together in Belize and genuinely coming to the decision to try to make this marriage of convenience an actual marriage, showing affection with one another wasn’t difficult. Like before our choice to make a real go of things, all our interactions were normal.

“What are you doing here?”

“My business meeting wrapped up early. Why?” He pulled me into his body and kissed me on the top of my head. “Are you not happy to see me?”

“I’m always happy to see you, Zo. You know that. Are those for me?”

“Of course.” He handed me the large bouquet of mixed flowers. “You know I don’t go a day without letting you know I’m thinking about you.”

Now, each time he sent me flowers, they were a mixture since I’d let on those were my favorite. Since our first date, he never once hadn’t gotten me a bouquet.

Someone clearing their throat brought me back to the fact it wasn’t just Vincenzo and me. Dr. Daniels and Connie were right there, watching us.

“Oh, I’m sorry. You’ll have to forgive me. Zo, this is Connie and Dr. Daniels, who has recently returned.”

Connie waved at Zo, and he gave her that gorgeous smile that would make any woman blush. By the deep crimson staining of Connie’s pale cheeks, she was just as enamored with him as I was.

Dr. Daniels reached out his hand to Vincenzo, and it was like two bulls in an arena facing one another. Tension quickly filled the space. Vincenzo’s brows quirked, and the corners of his mouth lifted.

“Nice to meet you,” Dr. Daniels gritted out, but even I heard the disingenuousness in his tone.

“I’m sure,” Vincenzo replied, pulling away from his grasp and then turning his attention towards me. “When will you be free?”
