She’d find ways to do good with the money. Everything for the restaurant was already paid for, so the options were limitless. I had an inkling that she’d dump the money into helping out kids in foster care, and probably something with animals, given her affinity for horses and her favorite guard mule.

“Are there more surprises? I don’t know if my heart can take more.”

I kissed her cheek, loving that she settled with the contact. “Just one, but we won’t know if it’s going to work until we get there.”

Riley was antsy as hell to get a move on, but it wasn’t time yet. We ate our way through breakfast, Jensen excusing himself to head back to work after he finished his coffee.

“Do you think Bryan is going to get tangled up in all the nonsense with Bruce, Karl, and Oskar?” Riley asked as she picked at the remainder of her pancake. “I don’t really believe he was involved, but I wouldn’t put it past the others.”

Cash shrugged. “Hasn’t been arrested yet. Still skittish as hell out at Carter’s. I imagine if he was going to get into shit, they’d have arrested him the same time as the others so he didn’t have time to run.”

Her shoulders relaxed and she nodded thoughtfully. “I’m glad he got away from them. I know I only adjusted as fast as I did because of you guys, and I wish he had that too.”

Cash shrugged. “Maybe he should quit being a chickenshit and get off neutralizers so he can get himself a scent match, then.”

“Cashy, it’s not that easy for everyone,” Riley admonished. “Give him some time. His whole life exploded, his former packmates were arrested, and his family is under investigation. There’s nothing wrong with taking it slow. He’s got some growing to do before he should get involved with another omega anyway.”

“Fiiine.”

My phone alarm went off, letting me know it was time to start heading to the final surprise. Only a few intersecting minutes were possible, so we had to be exact. We paid for the food and walked the short distance down the street to a huge building.

“What’re we doing at the feed store?” Riley tilted her head, examining the sign as if it would reveal the answers she sought.

I nudged her inside. As we walked down the main section, I looked down aisles until I found the one we needed. Spinning Riley had her freezing, shock and excitement tumbling down the bond before she bolted toward the only other occupant of the aisle. I blew out a relieved breath.

Careful coordination through Levi with the vet the Deckers employed gave us an idea of Maisie’s schedule and when they let her out into the world. We couldn’t get her out of there when they kept her children at the compound whenever Maisie was out, but small connections to the outside world meant a lot.

My phone buzzed.

Morgan:

Are you not updating me because it didn’t work or did I get the time wrong?

Cooper:

It worked. We only have a few minutes with the schedule they keep Maisie on, but we have someone on the inside who can help, at least.

Morgan:

FUCK YEAH

Tell her I say hi if you get the chance

Give both her and Riley the biggest hug from me

Cooper:

I’ll hug Riley, but I don’t imagine Maisie would be as receptive.

Morgan:

FAIR

I’ve got to sneak out for a client, but I was impatient for an update

Love you
