She smiled. “I miss you too.”
“Question.”
“Answer.”
“You interested in having dinner with us on Sunday?”
“With your family? All of you?”
I laughed. “Yes, all of us. Tinka can come too.”
“I’m a little nervous about that. Meeting Jamari was one thing. Meeting your parents… what if they don’t like me?”
“They will love you because you make me happy. I promise, it’ll be a good time. You get to hear all the embarrassing stories from my childhood. If moms is really feeling froggy, she’s gonna pull the photo album out to back it up. Everything will be fine.”
She hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Okay. I’ll come.”
“Great. I hate to let you go but I need to get home and shower. I’m exhausted.”
“As soon as I finish this room, I’m headed to shower myself. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Sleep well, love.”
“You too.”
We disconnected the call and I stood to head back inside with a smile on my face. Things were falling right into place.
“Biiiitch!” Tinka screamed, jumping into my arms and wrapping her legs around my waist.
She just pulled into my driveway and I was so happy to see her. Tinka could be a lot, but she was more than my cousin. She’s my best friend.
“I missed you so much!”
“I missed you too, girl.”
“Mommy sends her love. She really misses you, Wynter.”
“I miss her too. She’s gonna have to come down with you next time.”
“Oh she will. Right now, you’ve got me. I’m turning Silver Run the fuck up this weekend.”
She hopped down, turned around, and twerked her ass on me. I had to laugh because she was always a fun time. When she stood to her full height, a frown found her face.
“This old bitch. Can we help you!”
I looked over to see that Karen bitch watching us as she watered her flowers. She quickly turned away. Tinka shook her head.
“She wants me to sic my mama on her so bad. She hasn’t been giving you trouble, has she?”
“No. Still nosy as hell, but quiet about it. Come on. Let me show you to your room.”
We grabbed her things and headed inside. After a quick downstairs tour, I led her upstairs to the guest room.
“Oooo! This is nice, cousin!”
“Thank you. It used to be my room.”
She turned to me with a light smile. “I meant to ask. How’s it been living here again?”
