Taylor was in his own room, so there was no need to try to be so sneaky, but I couldn’t help myself. It felt like I was doing something wrong as I downloaded the Alien Mates app.
The loading screen was a steel blue, with the pink logo lit up like a neon light. I stared at it anxiously until the screen faded to a single question with boxes to tick.
Would you be willing to travel to faraway planets for love?
I swallowed and selectedno.
Another question popped up.
What are you looking for?
The one
New experiences
Undecided
I faltered between the second two options. Taylor only needed a date, but what if he ended up liking the alien and wanting more?
I hit number three as more questions popped up, general ones this time; age, sexual preferences, etc. Finally, I could make a bio.
I spent far too long sourcing through my photos for good ones. Taylor pretty much looked good in all of them, but I wanted to show his good qualities.
In the end, a photo of the two of us standing on top of Grouse Mountain made it, simply because he was in a t-shirt and shorts, and you could see that he was in good shape. His flushed cheeks and happy smile helped. Another of him in his suit from the winter ball was added. He’d been waiting for Neil to pick him up when I’d snapped that one, but no one needed to know that part. It showed he cleaned up well and that was all I cared about.
Okay, that should be enough.
For a while, I stared at the empty box for his bio. I didn't want to make up what he was seeking in a partner. Not that that was any weirder than making this profile to begin with, but still, it made me uncomfortable.
Seeking a plus one for the cherry blossom ball, I finally wrote.
There. Done.
I hitsubmit.
And immediately, a photo of an alien popped up.
He was bald, green, with tusks and solid white eyes. Exotic, I decided and swiped up. For about thirty minutes, I swiped up on every picture to pop up, not reading anything about them. I was still swiping as my eyes drooped shut.
Now I just had to wait for the messages to come pouring in.
Feeling accomplished, I set my phone aside. That had been oddlyexciting.
When I had tried online dating myself, I’d felt sick to my stomach. Apparently, it made a big difference if you were confident. All my life I'd seen the way that people were drawn to Taylor, so that left little to doubt. I was sure that by morning, I would be inundated with messages for him.
I was not wrong.
