For a moment, first thing in the morning when I opened my eyes and picked up my phone to look at the time, I stared in confusion at the full notification wall. Then, I abruptly sat up, eyes wide as I looked at all the messages.
“Damn,” I muttered. Apparently, I'd chosen good photos, because Taylor had been swamped with messages and there was very little else to go by.
I opened the app, spending far too long going through the first few messages and profiles.
There were plenty of aliens living on Earth now. Various programs had been set up to welcome them from friendly planets and they usually filled a certain number of high-level jobs since coming down to Earth was an extravagant occasion for most. But it was still rare to see so many of them so quickly. Normally a sighting once a week was lucky.
On Alien Mates, their race and planet were listed under their bios and there were pictures. Some of them just looked human. I stared at one alien's picture for about five minutes trying to pinpoint how he was an alien before reading his bio and seeing that he was a Clorgro—a shapeshifter from a planet called Sinstra. That explained it. Apparently, this was his human form. He'd only sent 'Hey' as a message so probably wouldn't be an upgrade from a human anyway, so I ignored the message.
Three messages were from aliens that made me tilt my head in confusion. I couldn't figure out where their faces were. One looked more like a plant than anything. If it was me, I'd still like to chat with most of them, to see what they were like at the very least, but I didn't think Taylor would be on that page. I probably should have thought of that while swiping up toeveryalien.
Taylor had never shown interest in aliens before, preferring classically handsome men with a touch of gruff masculinity.
With that in mind, it was easier to sort through them.
I scrolled through the messages and matches, searching for the ones that leaned toward human looks based on the small profile pictures and hittingignoreon the others.
In the end, I was left with ten aliens who had matched and sent messages. As I read them all, I was surprised by how generic they sounded. I’d thought aliens would be more interesting.
Good morning.
Thank you for swiping up for me.
You’re so sexy. I want to meet you ASAP.
I’m curious, how could you be ‘undecided’ if you are seeking your true mate or casual sex?
I blinked at the last message, sent from someone named Luno. There was more.
I apologize if this question is inappropriate. I am new to Earth and human culture.
Before I even realized I was doing it, I was typing a reply.
Haven’t you ever been indecisive about something before?
He replied immediately.
I have. About what I would like to eat, or what work to do first in the morning.
As for whether I wanted a life partner or not, there has never been any doubt in my mind. I want my life partner more than anything.
I swallowed and clicked on his profile.
The picture that popped up first made my stomach flip.
He was attractive all right, and in all the ways that people liked their aliens. He looked like the barbarian character out of an old movie, different and exotic and sexy. Messy, jet-black hair hung around his face. His skin was a pale, almost imperceptible purple. His eyes were piercing with slitted black pupils. His face was masculine, but his lips looked soft. He looked like he would be toxic to touch which only lent to his dangerous vibes. I swiped to the next picture and choked on air. Holytentacles. A lot of them. Different shapes and sizes fanning around him, coming from under him, all purple and black. It didn’t look like he had any legs, but it was hard to say from the angle of the picture and the interesting robe draped over his body.
He would turn heads, that was for sure. Those shoulders and arms alone…
This guy probably got more attention than he could handle…
He would beperfectfor Taylor.
I quickly flipped to his profile, reading what he’d written.
Seeking Sul.Willing to travel the known universe for the one. Love is eternal.
I wanted to keep the conversation going but… I had no idea what to say to all that. Instinctively, I wanted to fight it.
