From the sides, people coached me and told me not to move or antagonize the Redwood, orCoal, as some were calling him. His teammates and the club officials and eventually the club owner, Abram himself, got involved. All the while, the crowd watched with bated breath for what would happen next.
Eventually, someone arrived with a gun.
My heart stopped when I saw it.
“What are you doing?” I demanded.
My voice was shaking, and the Redwood crowded closer to me, his soft fur brushing my bare arms.
“Don’t worry, it’s a tranquilizer,” someone told me from the outside of the ring.
I looked at the man who was trying to keep me calm. He was an alpha, large and broad. He looked like a fighter and, judging by the fact that he was in Coal’s corner, he probably was.Whyhe thought that I would be worried about the Redwood, I was unsure, except that, for a moment there, Ihadbeen.
Without replying, I turned and watched as the gun was aimed straight at us. From this angle, so close to the large wolf’s side, it looked almost like I was the one who would be shot.
When the man pulled the trigger, I jerked and the Redwood flinched, his entire body going rigid.
For a moment, he snarled, spinning to face the direction he had been shot from, ready to snap at whoever was there. With no one to attack, he turned around in a full circle, his sharp gaze going foggy, his movements slow.
With a low growl from deep in his belly, he crowded me all the way back against the corner and laid his huge form down in front of me.
He continued to growl even as his eyes began to droop.
Finally, I thought I might be free. When the gates opened and people entered, they went to the other alpha first, lifting the Savage’s body onto a stretcher and quickly carrying him out.
I stayed where I was, partially because the Redwood had leaned his weight onto my legs, but also because I didn’t know what to do.
Another stretcher was brought in, for the Redwood this time. He appeared to be asleep, but the moment he was touched by the two medics, his head lifted with another snarl.
“Don’t worry,” the one by his face reassured him, “We’re bringing the omega with you.”
Almost immediately, the alpha’s head fell down heavily.
“You don’t mean that, do you?” I asked as they lifted him onto the stretcher.
The Redwood opened his eyes and fixed his hazy gaze on me. He seemed to say, without words, you’re not leaving my side.
Until I was told to come along, every time they moved, the prone alpha found the strength to growl at the men pushing him away.
Finally, when I grabbed onto the edge of the gurney, he seemed to relax.
“Congratulations, it looks like you found yourself an alpha.”
I looked up at the voice. Abram smiled at me tersely. The club owner, the very man responsible for the fights and the deaths, the man who profited off the misery… it was no wonder he would think I would be delighted by this. What omega wouldn’t be? Especially one in my situation. After all, I’d thought I would be dead by the end of this day. Instead, it seemed, I would bemated.
Whythe Redwood had fixated on me, I wasn’t sure. All Ididknow was that I wanted freedom more than anything, and a big, aggressive alpha wasn’t going to give it to me.
I was about to go from one cage to another.

Coal
I opened my eyes. For a moment, I saw nothing through the blurry haze except white light. There was a soft breeze on my skin and a lovely scent in the air that nearly made me purr with pleasure. A warmth spread through me and utter happiness that I didn’t understand.
I lifted my head, breathing in the sweet scent of an omega.Myomega.
With a gasp, I pushed to my feet, seeking him out. Immediately, I stumbled. The room spun so violently that I had to sit down, then lie down completely, until it stopped.
