“It’s amazing,” Nikolai returned.

The fact that he could so easily appreciate and enjoy Soren’s culture was heartwarming.

As she finished the number, both humans clapped louder than anyone else.

“Play a fast one next!” Botan shouted from the back.

Of course, it was him. Soren grinned. Botan was always the first to dance.

Fusa laughed and gestured for the others with instruments to join in, naming a quick number for them to play. When the drummers joined her, Soren knew the true party was about to begin.

Sure enough, the pack devolved into groups of people dancing.

Nikolai laughed while he watched the antics as the especially good dancers of the pack tried to outdo each other.

“It’s so beautiful!” Andrey shouted over the noise and Nikolai agreed emphatically.

Just then, Anzu’s cubs came running, taking Andrey’s hands and dragging him up.

“I can’t dance like you!” he insisted. “I don’t know how!”

They had no ears for his arguments though, beginning to dance around him.

Nikolai was grinning ear to ear as he watched, then, when Andrey gave him a hopeless look, his entire face bright red, Nikolai abruptly stood up and joined them. He put his all into dancing like the wolves did.

Then Anzu and her mate Enkai, a teddy bear of a man with a thick beard, noticed and joined them, laughing and teaching some basic steps.

Soren watched, grinning while happiness bubbled within him.

“Why don’t you go dance with them?” Jin suggested.

Soren shook his head.

“I’m enjoying the show too much. Plus, it’s nice to see him mingling so easily. I was worried for no reason.”

“It’s understandable. You didn’t know what to expect.”

Soren nodded.

“I only expected the worst. I thought that was it for us.”

“How fortunate that Nikolai acted when you didn’t. He knew to come to you.”

Soren nodded, suddenly too overwhelmed to speak.

He swallowed.

“Life is good.”

Jin placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing.

“This has brought me such peace,” he said quietly.

Soren looked at him, noticing how tired he suddenly looked.

“Do you need to retire Alpha?” he asked, but his grandfather shook his head.

“After I eat.”
