Soren's body tensed and shuddered and the overwhelming scent of him and the taste of his seed filling Nikolai's throat took him over the edge. He was moaning and coming hard as he swallowed, using his hands to massage Soren's throbbing knot.
When he finally crawled back up, he had to peel his pants off his hips and wipe clean before finally collapsing in his mate's arms.
“Good?” he asked breathlessly.
“Yes,” Soren said, tilting Nikolai's chin to get a deep kiss.
He moaned at the taste of himself and bit Nikolai's lip gently as they parted.
“I would have helped you,” he almost chastised, indicating Nikolai's spent body.
“I couldn't stop myself,” he admitted, blushing.
Soren chuckled.
“Always so wanton,” he said softly, pressing kisses to his neck, “just the way I like you.”
Nikolai smiled.
He stroked his fingers through Soren's long hair, pushing it back to see his handsome, angular face.
“You'll be able to handle Kamon in the morning, right?” he asked. He knew he shouldn't have, because Soren's gaze darkened with worry, but he couldn't help himself. He was anxious and the words just came out.
“What is it?” he pressed.
“That day he attacked Andrey, when we fought,” Soren finally said, not meeting Nikolai's gaze. “He nearly defeated me.”
Nikolai stared.
“That—that...”
He couldn't think of a thing to say, shock reverberating through him. He could tell Soren did not think he would win.
“I know I am a big man, but I have been idle. Staying at Jin's side while Kamon was out hunting and running and... What if he justisthe stronger alpha, Nikolai? I can't disappoint the pack,” Soren said, his voice worried. “I can't disappointJin.”
Nikolai shook his head fervently.
“Don't speak like that, please. That was in the moment, right? You'll be prepared this time and more than that, you'll have the motivation.”
“What do you mean?” Soren asked.
“This pack relies on you. Jin wanted you to be the alpha. That must count for something, right?”
Soren nodded slowly.
“I hope so. The moon goddess Suku would not let the wrong alpha run the pack,” he mused. “So, I suppose, whatever happens, is simply meant to be.”
His eyes began to droop but Nikolai's mind was racing. He was so nervous he didn’t think he could sleep.

SOREN
Waking up was oddly peaceful.
The havoc Soren had felt in his body and mind for the entirety of the previous day had changed to something else.
He was still devastated to lose Jin. Yes, he’d known he was going, but that didn't change the way he already missed him and what a loss it truly was. Tears filled his eyes and he blinked them back. At least, he was back to feeling like himself. Back in his body. With his mate at his side.
