Grace arches an eyebrow. “You’re not in your thirties yet.”

“I’m thinking ahead! I’m practically one foot into the grave.”

“Oh, lumos! Dramatic much?” she groans.

“I take after my best friend.” I chuckle when she sends a me a glare. “Plus, you know how my brother thinks I’m losing it, what better way to show him I was a stable adult than get married?” Well, that much was true, at least.

She gives me that Cillian Murphy meme face as she says, “Solid plan.”

“I’m glad you agree.” I smile brightly while Grace’s eyebrows jump up.

“I am not agreeing with you! That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard and that says something seeing as I ran from my own wedding. And watch, Vassar will blame me for this. That is if he doesn’t suffer from a heart attack as soon as you tell him the joyous news.”

I roll my eyes, walking back in the kitchen to finish my coffee. “Stop treating this like an atomic bomb.”

“Sophie, he’s not the one I had in mind for you.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you know Love Hive loves to find love matches for singles around here and I had someone else lined up for you.”

“Who?” My heart skips a beat. Did I make a mistake? Am I going to lose someone who was meant to be mine because of this?

She waves me off. “It doesn’t matter anymore, does it? Clearly, I was wrong seeing you two now. Especially when he went all ‘It’s Lovinski now,’” Grace mimics his deep voice again and I roll my lips between my teeth.

I’m still feeling the aftershock of shivers his tone and words gave me.

Callum Clover Lovinski is such a mystery to me. He says he wants to get fake married to me because there’s no chance we’ll cross any lines, because he doesn’t like me and all that, yet he acts like a protective beast the next morning.

I knew Grace’s interrogation would be bad. I even knew she’d bring up my dream wedding ideas and I was ready for it. Yet I hadn’tanticipated feeling so pathetically sad over the fact that one day I’ll get those dreams fulfilled but by someone other than this grumpy man. And then he made it ten times worse with his protectiveness.

“Sweet Harry, the man has a dirty mouth.” I turn around and see Grace’s face in my phone, reading the text from Clover.

“Hello?” I rush over to her. “Boundaries?” I snatch it away from her and she waves me off.

“I don’t know the meaning of that word. And did you seriously plan to hide that from me? From your best friend who told you about her husband’s pierced penis?”

I arch an eyebrow. “Gracie, you practically screamed about it to the whole world.”

“Exactly, I was sharing the joy with everyone.”

My eyes fall back to the screen where Clover’s message shines brightly. My thighs clenching anew.

“Stop having sex thoughts when I’m right here, and go call your brother.”

No, thank you.

“How about we do something more productive like find what I’m supposed to wear tonight to this dinner before we head out.”

“And where are we going?”

“Well, I am still looking for a job, and since you’re here, you’re coming along.”

“This is officially the strangest marriage I've ever seen.”

I chuckle quietly. You have no idea, Gracie Bear.
