Some of his men ran from the room. Cowards.

“I suggest to anyone who hasn’t left yet and doesn’t want to die today that you fuck all the way off to whatever rat-infested pit you crawled out of. Daddy and I need to have a private little chat. Family only.”

I waved the gun toward the doors, and they scampered away like the cockroaches they were acting as though they were being hit with pesticide. The last one out slammed the doors closed behind him, as if that could contain me.

“Finally, Daddy, we’re alone. I just love getting quality time with you. Go on, pull up a chair and let’s chat.”

He didn’t move and I didn’t appreciate being ignored. Not anymore. His scream filled the room and bounced off the glass as he fell to his knees.

“Oops, did that hurt? I was only teaching you a lesson, Daddy. It’s for your own good, silly!”

“Fuck. You,” he snarled.

“Ew, that would be incest Daddy. Don’t make it weird.”

“You crazy bitch, what is wrong with you?”

He spat on the floor before him, holding his thigh where the bullet had made a hole in his leg.

“What’s wrong with me? Isn’t this what you wanted Daddy? I’m the monster you created, aren’t you proud of what you’ve created? You did this to me.” I giggled.

“You’re not my daughter, you’re just like that bitch I married.”

“Wrong answer.”

Another scream rent the air as another bullet opened up his arm. The blood from the wound stained his crisp white shirt. I felt like I was an artist watching my painting come to life.

“Aren’t you even a little bit curious as to why I have such good aim, Daddy?” I sighed.” You always did underestimate me, you let your ego and power get too big and go to your head.”

I clicked my tongue at him in disapproval. I got closer to him, but not enough for him to reach out and touch me.

“I enjoy seeing you at my mercy Daddy. Now, let me explain how I can shoot you without killing you and no, it’s not just luck. You see, I took lessons. How, I hear you ask? Well, every time I was at work, I would sneak to the gun range without your dumb goons finding out. I practiced every single day knowing I would need it at some point, and here we are. So, given that I can continue to put bullets in you until you bleed out or kill you instantly by popping a bullet here.” I tapped thegun between my brows before aiming it back on him. “Or I can let this go,” I waved the grenade and he tensed. “It will kill us both, so I suggest you play along.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“Wrong again, Daddy. Here’s the thing—I have nothing left to lose, you ensured that. You took everything from me. You ruined me! And now I’m happily going to return the favour. Isn’t that what family’s for?”

He must have seen the truth written on my face because for once he kept his mouth shut.

“Now tell me, when did you find out Mum was in love with Amélie?”

His jaw ticked before he spoke through clenched teeth. “I had my suspicions the first time I saw them together. They were overly familiar, and your mother tried to play it off as old souls that had been connected in a past life. She thought I was fucking stupid.”

“It’s okay Mum,” I said to the spot on the floor where I knew she was buried. “It turns out you were right. He really is fucking stupid!” Another laugh ripped out of me.

“She can’t hear you. She’s fucking bones Davina, just like you will be if you don’t let me go.”

He smiled at me with a cruel twist of his lips, as if that would put me back in my box. Too late—the box had been blown to smithereens. I was in front of him before he could register my movements, and a satisfying crack filled the room as the hard metal of the gun collided with his temple. He fell on his side, screaming at the impact as the floor met his wounds.

“You don’t get to talk to me like that anymore, Daddy. Now get up.”

I kicked him before moving back out of reach, and he whimpered. It was like I had ascended, the sound glorious to my ears. He gingerly moved to rest on his hands.

“Quicker, I haven’t got all day.” I motioned to the exit leading to the gardens.

“How do you expect me to walk? You fucking shot me in the leg!”

I snorted. “I don’t silly! You’re going to fucking crawl on your hands and knees like the pathetic piece of shit that you are. Nowmove!”
