One stepped up and started dividing people. I looked at him, “You’re Lead Male Warrior Kincade and Female Lead Warrior Carry’s son.” Killian Farmer smirked, “One of them, yes. My older brother would be better, but you have to make do with me.” I snorted, “I’ll think we will stand just fine with you, Killian.”

Killian seemed surprised saying, “You know my name?” I’d protected him a lot, so I definitely knew him. Caine chuckled. I nodded, “Yes, which… seemed obvious… since I said your name.” Killian replied, “So it was. How do you know me?” I squeaked, “So… uhh formation… yeah… that’s what we were doing.” Killian raised an eyebrow.

Once everyone was in position I yelled, “They are coming. Hold the line!” We fanned out in a circle. I knew most of the rogues would come from the west which is why I had their strongest Warriors facing them. The rest were coming from the east which is where we were.

They began running into the clearing. I looked over at Caine, Dax, Addison, Abigail, and Sierra. They nodded at me. Mason and Hendrick were on the west side of the circle. I linked them, “No one gets hurt, or I’ll kick your butt when you’re healed.”

Hendrick snorted, “You got shot.” I replied, “For Paige….and it was in the vest.” Dax snorted, “Which you aren’t wearing now.” I rolled my eyes. Addison’s wolf threw a vest at me with her teeth. I sighed and put it on quickly. Worry warts.

You intentionally take one bullet... I repeat... it was on purpose… and people freak out. My ribs were now feeling more like a dull ache. Freya’s healing was no joke. My wolf agreed, “It’s not. I’m an excellent healer.” That seemed like an understatement.

I pulled out a knife and spun it around in my hand. I yelled, “HOLD!” the rogues were coming... they were clearly surprised we weren’t running at them. I could see it on their faces, but they brushed it off. Freya said, “Because they are not right in their minds.” True.

Once they were close enough. I yelled, “NOW!” The wolves on our side jumped the rogues. They were already tired from sprinting to get to us. Rogues didn’t train. It was always best to let them wear themselves out.

They were staying away from me. Only a few even approached me. I killed them easily, but most… just stayed away. I sighed. I engaged with those fighting Caine. Caine linked me, “What the hell? Why aren’t they fighting you?” I replied, “I have no idea.” Freya chuckled. Ok?

I helped Caine kill several more when a scream pierced the air. “DADDY HELP ME!” OH, COME ON! Yellow Hills wolves howled in anger. Because of course they would. That was their Alpha’s little sister.

I yelled, “YOU HOLD THE GOSH DARN LINE! DO NOT BREAK!” I told Dax and Caine, “Cover my spot!” I could hear TJ snarling. Well, I was fairly certain it HAD to be him. Freya confirmed, “It is Chet.” Which was TJ’s wolf… so I was right. Allison was his mate, and she was screaming so his reaction made sense.

The Conners, Daniels, Kyle’s, my family and everyone outside the barrier was screaming or growling in anger. I took off for the woods. I only had to kill a few rogues in my way. I found a bow and arrow laying around. That was handy.

How the HELL did they get Allison Daniels? Allison cried, “TJ! TJ, HELP ME PLEASE!” I grabbed a tree branch and quickly climbed a tree and began tree hopping. Freya sighed, “We are still not a squirrel.” No, but I spend time with the Weresquirrels. They were fun and I thought about our lessons to get through the trees more efficiently.

Flashback

Melanie was having fun. Crown Prince Onyx, one of the weresquirrels I knew, was showing me the best branches to choose from when going through trees. Onyx was in his snow white weresquirrel form he had been in when we met.

His friend, Perrin, teased, “Onyx, she can’t pick those branches because she doesn’t shift into a squirrel. She’s too big and human sized.” I scoffed, “I mean a real squirrel couldn’t pick those branches….they aren’t as big as you guys. Where are we on you guys answering about the flying weresquirrels.”

Perrin joked, “You’ve got to stop trying to break my Crown Prince’s heart.” I asked, “Uhhh why would asking about the flying weresquirrels do that? I’m just a curious person…and I know they exist now…so I’d like to meet them.”

Perrin winked, “You could like one of them.” He meant romantically. I assured him, “I won’t…in the way you mean…because I know who my mate is. Plus…Onyx doesn’t care about that….he flirted when we first met…and so did his sister…but…”

Perrin agreed, “Yes, they have some weird sibling rivalry about who is more attractive and go after the same women.” Onyx’s squirrel huffed at him. Perrin replied, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game my friend. I have no designs on the beautiful and intriguing Ashley. I just admit she’s beautiful.”

I grumbled, “He doesn’t have any designs on me either. Onyx is just a friend.” Perrin snickered. Onyx shifted back saying, “Just put a dagger through my heart, beautiful girl.” Umm what? He shook his head then said, “You can’t go up as high as we can, but you can go higher than you are currently.” Interesting.

Onyx took me up higher and I tested my weight out on the branches. He was right, I’d been lower on the branches than I needed to be. I grinned saying, “Thanks, Onyx. Now, it’s time for your hunting lesson.” Perrin cheered, “Yay!” Onyx snorted, “You’re having too much fun, Perrin.” I think we all were because it was nice to be around this type of dynamic again.

Flashback Ends

Freya pulled me out of the past, “Yes, it is their fault for giving you lessons BUT you did it before you met them.” I rolled my eyes muttering, “Habits and stuff.” Freya chuckled. I paused in the tree above Allison. Some Coven members were still alive, the jerks. They’d somehow gotten Allison.

My eyes narrowed on her arm where they’d cut her. They were taunting everyone outside the barrier. That was dumb… the allies were going to get in and MESS them up. I drew my arrow back and released it into the forearm of the man holding Allison. He screamed.

I jumped down and took him to the ground. I yelled, “ALLISON, RUN!” She stared at me with wide eyes. I quickly killed the man who had been holding her. I grabbed Allison by the arms. I asked, “Do you see that house over there?” She looked and nodded. Thank god for small favors.

At least Allison didn’t get hit in the head like Paisley had. Freya said, “Paisley did not have a head injury.” She had to have had one. Allison whispered, “That’s my parents’ house. Actually, it’s my mom’s special house.”

I nodded, “Sure, the special house. Get to it.” Allison asked, “What about you?” I replied, “I’m a little busy… with bad people… it’s kind of thing… you go on and get to safety.” I handed her the bow and arrows.

I told her, “Anyone who tries to stop you… shoot them. Got it?” She nodded, “I’m a good shot.” I nodded, “I’m sure… that’s not a thing I already know…. about you… for reasons.” Allison snorted, “Wow. You’re a bad liar.” I sighed, “So I’ve heard. Now run.” I gave her a push, and she took off.

I threw a knife at the first guy going after Allison. A Coven member started chanting at me. I raised an eyebrow when he finished and nothing happened. He looked at me and gaped. He questioned, “What the hell is wrong with you?” I shrugged, “Nothing….. Obviously. I think your spell is defective.”

I turned the dial on my watch and turned to face the guy sneaking up behind me. I held my breath and sprayed the gas in his face. He screamed which worked for me… because it made the gas work faster. He died. Point for Olivia… that was her gas that she’d been working on.
