“I can get a message to him over the radio?”
“Ah…” Amanda didn’t know what to say. Lenny showing up was an emergency, but she didn’t have any clue where he was, and she didn’t want to leave people out in the ocean to drown. Mike would just need to call in the FBI. “Can you tell him that Lenny is coming back? Like, now. He’ll know what that means.”
“Sure. I’ll get on the radio.”
“Thank you!”
Amanda hung up, typing out a quick text to her dad with all that she knew.
Jade waited patiently. “What’s going on?”
“Ugh, it’s a mess. There was a boating accident. They’re fishing people out of the water, and my dad is chasing someone down in a sheriff’s boat.”
“Let me call Matthew, he’s off of work today,” Jade said, stepping out of the room.
Amanda nodded, then called Mike again.
“Talk to me,” he said, answering on the first ring.
“The police here are tied up with a boating accident. You’re going to need to call in back up from the FBI.”
“That’s not an option,” Mike replied. “I’m not in the FBI anymore.”
“What!” She shouted into the phone. “Nowyou’re telling me!? I can’t find Will!”
“Well, you need to try harder.”
Amanda gritted her teeth. “Thank you Captain Obvious. Which airport is Lenny flying into? Can you at least tell me that?”
“No. I would guess that he’s coming by seaplane so he can’t easily be spotted. San Juan hasn’t been good to him. He could show up anywhere.”
Amanda groaned. “We’re running out of time Mike.”
“Yes. Stay put, I’ll figure this out.”
There was one place that Will wasmostlikely to be – the estate. Could she get there and warn him before it was too late?
“I’m going to look for him. I’ll share my location with you.”
“Amanda, no, you – ”
She hung up, grabbed her car keys, and the pepper spray that Margie got her. She was already in her car when Jade called.
“Where are you going? I called Matthew – he was out for a run with Toast.”
“His dog?”
“Yeah. He’s going to help. What should he do, though?”
“Maybe he can go to Will’s apartment to look for him? And to look for Lenny? I’m going to the estate.”
“Amanda, you can’t go alone! At least – ”
“He’s probably at his apartment. I’m just not sure, and I can’t let him walk into it blind. Lenny probably doesn’t know about the estate.”
Jade sighed. “You don’t know that.”
“I have to look. Let me know what Matthew finds.”
