Chapter 4
Once Amanda was back in her room, Morgan decided to make her move. If she waited any longer, Connor might be tipped off and Teresa might be, too.
Morganknewthat there was something they weren’t telling her about Lenny. Why did everyone act like it was totally normal and no big deal that a guy broke into Margie’s housewith a gun?Why did they all act like it was a silly misunderstanding? And how was it that Amanda just happened to be ready to taser him?
No one was talking, but Morgan was determined to figure it out.
She went to her bedroom and pulled out her phone to call Luke. He’d been in Vancouver for the last six weeks working on a film that Teresa helped him get involved with.
Luckily, January wasn’t a big month for them as far as weddings go, so Morgan was able to handle everything on her own. She did miss him, though, even more than she expected to. Maybe that’s why she was looking for trouble?
No, that wasn’t it. Morgan was always looking for trouble.
He answered her call on the third ring. “Hello beautiful.”
“Hi Luke,” she said, smiling to herself. “How are things?”
“Oh you know, not bad. We’re dealing with the tricky bit of editing, but Teresa is helping us out.”
“Oh, is she?” Morgan tried to keep her tone casual. “I actually wanted to ask her a question.”
“Hang on, I’ll grab her. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, everything’s fine. Uh…well, you can’t tell Jade. Or Connor.”
“Oh, there’s a secret?”
“Sort of. Amanda saw Lenny today in Seattle. And it’s a long story – but Istillfeel like she knows more than she’s letting on. And I just…”
Luke laughed. He was well aware of her suspicions. “All right, all right. Teresa is just walking by – I’ll get her.”
Morgan let out a sigh. She knew that her secrets would always be safe with Luke, even if he had no interest in partaking in the gossip with her. He’d been very focused in Vancouver, unlike she’d ever seen him before. It was nowshewho felt bored and stagnant.
“Hi Morgan! What’s up?”
“Hey Teresa! So, this is kind of awkward…”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong. I just had a question for you. Is Connor around?”
“He’s not, but I can – ”
“No, that’s fine.” Better even. Connor shut down gossip faster than anyone she knew. “Because I feel like he wouldn’t want you to tell me. You know how he is.”
Teresa laughed. “Why do I feel like I’m going to get in trouble?”
“You’re not going to get in trouble. But let’s say that maybe I, or someone else, thought they saw Lenny in Seattle?”
“Oh?”
“And maybe I – or that person – just wanted to know if Lenny has any other known associates that we should be on the lookout for?”
“I’m sure that Chief Hank would know better than I would.”
“He’s kind of a grump.” Morgan smiled to herself. Understatement of the year. “And I meant more like people you knew from your days on set with him.”
“Oh man, I don’t know. Connor used to see him hanging out with a few guys at the resort. There was another guy who was always on set with him, but I never caught his name. I probably couldn’t pick him out of a crowd if you paid me.”
