It was anticipation.

She tried to look up into his eyes, but he was so tall that his face was in shadow from the soft elevator fixtures.

Still, she could see his grin. “Should we go back down so I can apologize to the good doctor?”

DING

The elevator doors opened on Kay’s floor.

Gibson turned his head to look at the open doors and reached out his hand. He held them open and turned back to look at her, his question still there in his eyes.

Kay didn’t trust her words at the moment.

She might go and do something stupid like tell him to let the doors close so that they could find the ridiculously irritating man and offer him a meaningless and totally undeserved apology.

Instead of giving him a verbal answer, Kay did something totally unexpected, from her at least.

She reached up and grabbed one end of his tie and gave it a tug.

The knot was stubborn, thank goodness, and it only lengthened a bit as she started for the open doors.

Gibson had to switch hands holding the doors open so he wouldn’t choke as she drew him out of the elevator.

It was a powerful feeling inside of her.

This giant of a man was following her away from the elevators.

Down the hall.

And stopping at her door.

The last one at the end.

He stood there behind her, his hand bracing on the door frame just above her head, as she used the key card to access the room.

The little whir of sound reached her ears as the door unlocked and was comical enough to make her smile before the green light lit up. She turned her head to give him the slightest look before pushing the door open and drawing him in behind her.

It all seemed so easy until the door to her room clicked shut.

Then everything changed.

Everything.

He picked her up off the floor.Off of the floor.

Kay wasn’t sure if that’s why she lost her breath, or maybe it was the impact of her back against the wall.

Oh, it didn’t hurt.

It was just a surprise.

So was the kiss he gave her.

She’d been dazzled by his kiss before, but now she was hungry.

And he fed that hunger with his own.

Kissing before had been gentle in comparison.
