“Have you heard from Nikki?” he asks, his voice laced with concern.
“Her and Sammi went shopping… didn’t they tell you?”
“I know. She said they were on their way home over an hour ago and I got a strange notification from the tracking app we both use.”
“What?”
“It said her phone went offline.”
“So, maybe it died?”
“It shows me her last location.”
“Which was?”
“Somewhere out of town… far out of town. Somewhere she would have no reason to go.”
“What should we do?” I ask.
“Can you come pick me up? I’d like to drive out that way, just in case.”
“I’ll be right there.” I end the call and quickly head off to my room to get dressed.
As soon as I’m done, I grab my phone off the night stand and send a text to Nikki. I then realize, she hasn’t read the other message I sent her.
I take off to pick up Jeremy and as soon as I pull into his side of the driveway he practically runs outside and hops into my car.
“Her phone hasn’t turned on since the last pinned location. She never does this. Why would she have driven out of town?” he asks as I back out of the driveway, heading toward the highway.
I glance over at the map on his phone and make the next left turn to head into the direction of their last known location.
Not long after, we make another left turn onto a gravel road and after making it over a small hill, we see the tail lights of Sammi’s car up ahead. Even from this far away, I can see that the both the driver and passenger side doors are wide open.
I speed up, pulling in behind the car and put my car into park in a hurry, both of us hopping out to run up to the empty car. Inside, we see both Sammi and Nikki’s phones.
“Where the fuck are they?” Jeremy hollers out, turning to face the woods on his side.
Just then, I look down at the ground and see a leather glove laying in the dirt, so I pick it up and brush it off, noting the name stitched into the cuff. Nolan Webster.
“Do you know Nolan Webster?” I ask Jeremy. As soon as he hears the name, he spins around and slams his fists into the side of the car.
“Fuck! That’s Nikki’s ex!” He exclaims.
“How the fuck did he find them? And why did they drive all the way out here?”
“I don’t know. He must have been tracking them somehow!”
“We’ll find them, Jeremy. First, let’s figure out which way they might have taken them.”
One of us has to remain calm—and I guess that person is me.
“We’vegotthem,”Ihear a muffled voice say from inside the car.
Is that…Nolan?
I can feel the blood trickling down my face as I try to move. I have no idea where Sammi is. The last thing I remember is being whacked in the side of the head by something heavy, causing me to collapse to the ground. My ankles and wrists are bound by a thick rope and by the looks of it, I’m inside someone’s trunk, unable to move an inch.
My mouth is covered by a thick layer of duct tape, rendering me unable to make a single sound.
