“I’m gonna go hop through the shower and then go grab us something to eat. Any special requests?”

“Hmm…I’d love an orange, if Dean has any.”

“I’m sure he does. I’ll check.”

I watch him as he stands up, his bare ass illuminated by the early morning sun shining through the window.

“Nice bum, where ya from?” I giggle.

He shakes his head and disappears into the bathroom.

“Are you leaving before lunch?” I ask, knowing he can still hear me since the bathroom door is still open.

“Right after breakfast,” he replies, turning on the water.

Damn.

“What exactly do you plan on doing when you catch Paul?”

“That all depends on what I’m in the mood for…”

I let out a sigh and roll back over, staring mindlessly out the window. I’m all for justice being served, but who knows what might happen while they’re gone?

Will they get caught?

Thrown into jail?

Killed by a posse of Paul’s disgusting accomplices?

Malachi is the toughest man I’ve ever known, but those type of men are unpredictable. They’ll stop at nothing.

A few minutes later, Malachi gets out of the shower and strolls back into the room with just a towel around his waist. Normally, I’d want to be all over him, but anxiety has taken over my entire body and I just want to lie in bed.

My heart is racing just thinking about the fact that when he pulls out of the driveway, it might be the last time I get to see him.

“Are you gonna get dressed, baby girl?” he asks as I sit up on the edge of the bed and rub my tear filled eyes.

I can barely even look at him.

“Baby? Are you okay?” He pulls a T-shirt over his head and makes his way over to me, kneeling in front of me on the floor.

“No! I’m not okay!” I whimper as the tears run down my cheeks. “I’m so fucking scared, Malachi…”

“Of what? You’ll be fine, Dean won’t let anything happen to you. I can promise you that much.”

“That’s not what I’m scared of. What if something happens to you? Then what?”

He smiles and grabs my hands, placing them against his chest. “I’m careful, Nikki. I know what I’m doing.”

I shake my head. I know damn well that I’m being dramatic, but the fear of losing him is almost too much to handle. It would change everything. I’d never be the same.

“I just can’t imagine being without you…”

“Then don’t. I’ll be back before you know it. I promise, baby girl.”

He lets go of my hands, but I keep them placed on his chest, memorizing his heartbeat in case I never get to feel it again. His thumb wipes the tears from my face before he stands back up. “Come on, baby. Let’s go get you an orange.”

“I’m sorry for being such a… wimp,” I manage to say, my voice shaking with every word.
