“Or months.” Dawson added.

“Thanks,” I said. “I really appreciate it, but I think right now I need to go back home and see what kind of disaster my life is going to be and if there’s any groveling I need to do. But I might take you up on that offer if it all gets too much.”

“Anytime.” Dawson patted me on the back, and I smiled at him.

For an international superstar, he was a great, down-to-earth guy. And he made Leo happy, which was a huge plus of course.

They both helped me pack my stuff—properly this time, not just throwing everything inside—while I took some time to book my flight back to Virginia.

Once I was packed, Dad walked into the room followed by Fisayo.

“Luke, are you okay?” he asked.

“I'm fine, but I'm going home,” I said.

Fisayo stepped up and took my hands.

“Sweetie, he didn't mean to hurt you. He was trying to do right by you,” she said.

I nodded attempting to smile.

“I know he was, but it's not the right way. It feels like he's doing it to appease everyone. And I can’t be with someone who can’t see that.”

“I understand, but he loves you, you know that.”

“No, I don't actually. He never told me. He said he was falling in love, and so did I, but he never told me he loved me,” I told her.

Fisayo pursed her lips in understanding.

“Why don’t you talk to him?”

“I just need some space. So much has happened in such a short amount of time… I want to put my head on straight.”

“I understand. Well, I want to come with you. Is that okay?” she said.

“You don't have to. I know your job is here.”

“No, Luke,” she said. “I want to. I’ve been working for August’s family for a long time, and they hardly feel like a job anymore, but you’re my family. I want to be a part of your life. To see the kind of life you’ve made for yourself.” She then turned to Dad and took his hand. “Besides, Paul has invited me to meet the family.”

I turned to Leo, whose jaw had dropped to the floor, and Dawson, who was chuckling, amused by his boyfriend.

“I knew it,” Leo exclaimed. “Iknewyou were hiding something.”

“Shut up, Leo,” Dad told him.

“Okay, then. I guess we’re going home,” I said.

“We’re going to stay behind and pack, but we should be back within the week,” Dawson said.

I nodded and turned to my dad and my… my mother. God, this was weird. This was going to take some getting used to.

I hoped they were compatible, though. I’d hate to have to “pick sides” if they didn’t work out.

“Are you guys sure you want to announce this to the rest of the family?” I asked.

Dad put his hand around Fisayo’s waist and pulled her into his arms.

“We’re sure,” he said.
