Without another word, he spun on his heel and stormed out, her phone still clutched tightly in his fist. The door slammed behind him with a deafening thud, the sound ricocheting through the walls like a gunshot.
Emily rushed toward it, fingers curling around the handle, but the lock clicked ominously. The door wouldn’t budge.
“Adam!” she yelled, pounding on the wood with her fist, heart hammering in her chest. “Open the door! Adam!”

Hours later, outside the Crawford house, rain dripped from Sebastian’s hair, plastering it to his forehead. His jaw was tight, fingers curled around his phone, as he tried to push past the two burly guards Adam had stationed at the entrance.
“Emily!” he called, his voice low, rough with frustration. He shoved past the guards, stepping forward despite their resistance.
The door swung open violently, and Adam appeared, fury written across his face, blocking his path.
“SebastianfuckingGraves!” Adam roared, his voice echoing through the entryway like an untamed animal.
Sebastian stopped, chest rising and falling with measured breaths, his eyes locked on Adam.
“I thought my little sister was your little sister too!” Adam thundered, jabbing a finger into Sebastian’s chest. “But all this time, you’ve been seducing her behind my back? You even trapped her into a marriage? How dare you! Do you have no shame? You were my best friend—my best friend! And you betrayed me?!” His voice cracked, raw with rage, and his chest heaved. “Do you think I’ll let you anywhere near Emily after this?”
Rain streaked down Sebastian’s sharp features, water mingling with the calm determination in his eyes.
“This was my mistake,” he said finally, voice quiet but sincere. “I should have told you sooner. I should have told everyone. But I promised Emily I wouldn’t say a word until she was ready.”
Adam’s face remained tense and furious, his glare burning into Sebastian.
“But I didn’t trap her,” Sebastian continued, his tone tightening. “I didn’t take advantage of her. I will take care of her. I will never let harm come to her.” He bowed his head slightly, a gesture of humility Adam had never seen before.
Leon, standing a few steps behind Sebastian, watched silently, eyes wide. ‘This evil man is usually so damn arrogant, and stern… he wouldn’t bow his head even if he lost billion-dollar deals. Not even in front of his own mother during an argument. But he is begging Mr. Crawford, for the sake of his woman? Mrs. Graves really has a hold on him.’
Adam’s glare locked on Sebastian. “She broke up with Lucas less than a year ago,” he said, voice low but shaking with anger. “She barely crawled out of one mess, and you—” his tone sharpened, “—you swoop in andmarryher when she’s at her lowest?! Do you even care what she’s going through? This marriage is amistake. I won’t let her see you again. Stay the fuck away from her!”
He spun on his heel, slamming the door behind him.
Sebastian tried to follow, but strong hands pressed firmly against his chest. The guards blocked his path, denying him entry. He froze for a moment, frustration flickering across his face, the rain-slicked driveway behind him glistening in the dim light.
Adam returned to his bedroom, slamming the door behind him with a resounding thud that vibrated through the walls.
Emily rose to her feet instantly, heart pounding in her chest. As he walked in, she stepped forward, hesitating for a heartbeat before speaking.
“Adam?” Her voice was soft, almost tentative.
Adam’s eyes were stormy, dark with anger. Emily swallowed, taking slow steps closer, her hands trembling slightly.
“I know you’re worried about me,” she said, her voice low but earnest, “but you can’t be so heartless and rude to Sebastian. I just introduced him to you as my husband, and the very first thing my family does is insult him? He’s always treated me well, and you’re treating him like this. How is that fair?”
Her fingers reached for his, clutching his hands tightly. “He’s your best friend. You both have such a long history, a good relationship. You know him better than I do. He has no bad habits—he’s a good man. So why are you treating him like this? Do you really think he isn’t good enough for me?”
Adam’s anger softened slightly, though his worry lingered. He took her hands in his own. “I’m worried about you. You married him out of the blue, and you didn’t even tell anyone! What elseam I supposed to think… other than that he took advantage of you?”
Emily’s lips curved into a small, teasing pout. “Adammmm,” she chided softly, like a little sister daring her big brother, her voice playful but tinged with exasperation. “If anything, I took advantage of him! How could he take advantage of me when I was the one still untangling myself from a complicated relationship and trying to move on from my ex?”
Just then, her parents appeared at the doorway. Emily stiffened, the sudden presence of George and Diana tightening her chest with anxiety. ‘Of all the things… this isn’t how I wanted them to hear about my marriage.’
“Dad,” she whispered, her voice barely audible, tinged with nervousness.
George smiled warmly, extending a reassuring hand. “Go. Bring him in. Don’t leave him out in the cold—it’s been the whole day already.”
Relief flooded through her in a sudden, warm rush. She exhaled and smiled widely, her tension easing. “Thank you, Dad!” she said, her voice brighter as she hurried past them and out the door.
