Adam slammed the door in Sebastian’s face, the bang echoing through the house.

“Adam! What are you doing?” Diana cried, rushing forward, disbelief and outrage mingling. “He’s a guest! You can’t just throw him out!”

Adam’s finger jabbed toward Emily. “He was kissing Emily just now!” Adam’s voice thundered through the house, his gaze burning with a furious glare that could burn through steel.

Before Emily could respond, Adam stormed upstairs, his footsteps heavy, each one reverberating through the house. He disappeared from sight, leaving Emily standing frozen, heart pounding.

Emily turned to her parents, chest still racing, and tried to calm them. “Don’t worry,” she said quickly, her voice steadier than she felt. “I… I really like Sebastian.”

Diana stepped closer, about to speak, concern etched into her features, but Emily held up a hand. “I’ll explain later, okay?” She turned abruptly, hurried up the stairs, and reached Adam’s room.

The door was ajar, a small relief washing over her. ‘At least he hasn’t shut me out completely. He’s angry… but he still wants to hear me. There’s still a chance.’

She entered quietly, her steps soft against the carpet. Adam stood near the window, his broad frame tense, shoulders squared, jaw tight. Shadows from the pale morning light streaked across his face, highlighting the storm in his eyes. Emily swallowed hard and walked up to him.

“Adam,” she began, voice tentative, careful, “can you let Sebastian come inside the house? It’s early morning, and with the rain, all the roads are blocked. You know he can’t go anywhere. He—he shouldn’t be out there like this.” Her voice wavered, but she tried to sound calm.

Adam whipped around, his eyes flashing with anger so intense it made her heart skip a beat. “You’restillworried about that bastard?!” His hands clenched into fists at his sides, veins standing out as his fury radiated toward her. “He kissed you… and you’re defending him?!”

“I kissed him back!” Emily blurted out before she could stop herself.

Adam’s expression darkened further, thunderous anger morphing into something almost demonic.

Emily shivered under the intensity, but she forced herself to continue. Her voice trembled as she added, almost hesitantly, “I… I got married to him.”

Adam spun to face her in an instant, stepping forward with quick, sharp steps. “What thefuckdid you just say?” His voice was raw, charged with disbelief and rage.

Emily’s pulse pounded in her ears. Her throat tightened, but she repeated the words, forcing herself to speak through the fear knotting her stomach. “I married Sebastian.”

Adam’s chest heaved once, twice—then he exploded. His hands slammed to his waist as if he needed something to stop himself from shaking apart. His voice rose, thick with rage.

“You’re getting a divorce.Tomorrow!Do you hear me?!”

“What?” Emily cried out, her heart slamming against her ribs.

“Stop wrecking your life, Emily!” Adam snapped, his voice shaking with raw fury. His chest heaved as though he’d been holding back for too long, his eyes blazing like he couldn’t believe the words coming out of his own mouth.

“What the hell were you thinking?!” He took a sharp step toward her, his anger spilling like a storm. “You don’t even have any feelings for him! There’s no real relationship between you two!” His words cracked through the air like a whip. “So why? What the hell were you thinking marrying him? Just to make your ex jealous? Is that it?” His voice broke into a furious roar. “Are you out of your fucking mind?!”

Emily‘s eyes flashed with equal parts fear and defiance. “And how do you know there’s no relationship between us?”

Adam barked out a short, harsh laugh, one without an ounce of humor. “Relationship?Relationship?” He practically spat the word, his hand slicing through the air in disbelief.

“You’re telling me you got married to Sebastian—a man you’ve barely known—and it hasn’t even been a few months since you walked away from Lucas!Five yearswith him, Emily. Five years! And now this?” He jabbed a finger at the floor like he was hammering the words into stone. “Whatever this…thingis between you and Sebastian, I don’t care. I don’t agree with it. Not one damn bit!”

—but the shrill ring of her phone cut through the tension.

She startled, blinking down at the screen lighting up in her hand.

Sebastian’s name flashed across it.

Before she could answer, Adam’s hand shot out and he snatched the phone from her grip.

“Adam! Give me my phone!” Emily snapped, her voice tight with disbelief as frustration boiled in her chest.

Adam planted a hand in front of her face, finger pointing sharply. “Sit. Down.”

Emily froze mid-step, breath caught in her throat.
