He looked very different from that day—no open shirt or flashy ripped jeans. Instead, he wore a tailored grey suit, his posture neat and professional.
However, Harold was taken aback by her words and quickly corrected himself.
“I used to work at that bar, but now I’m a full-time intern at a jewelry company—the owners of this event.”
“The owners of this event?” Emily raised an eyebrow in surprise. “We don’t have any internship at Nox Enterprises,” she breathed. “Do you mean you’re an intern at the Empire Group’s jewelry department?”
He nodded eagerly. “Yes! I’m an intern in the Empire Estate’s jewelry department. Since this is the launch party, I’m here to help with arrangements and attend the event. It’s really important for our company.”
Emily smiled warmly, admiring his determination. ‘It must be so hard for him, working at a bar and building his career at the same time.’
She said kindly, “If you ever have questions about your designs or anything jewelry-related, just ask. I’m happy to help.”
Harold’s grin stretched so wide it looked like it might crack his face.
‘Miss Emily looks so beautiful tonight,’ he thought, his eyes admiring Emily in her elegant gown. The party was still an hour away from starting, but she was already perfectly dressed. He could barely contain his excitement. ‘I can’t believe I’m meeting my crush here. I thought I’d be bored out of my mind after mom forced me to come, but now... I feel like the luckiest man alive.’
Then, he grinned at Emily and said, “I have so many questions—I’ll be coming to you often! Thank you so much for your help. Thank you, really!”
He repeated his thanks several more times before rushing off.
Emily chuckled softly at his excitement and went to take a seat at one of the tables. She’d been standing for so long her feet ached. As she sat down, she pulled out the checklist she’d been holding, ready to mark off the tasks.
Barely five minutes passed before Harold appeared again, waving a small handheld fan in front of her face.
“Here,” he said, “it’s so hot today—even with the AC, you must be feeling it. I brought this for you.”
He set the fan on the table in front of her with a grin on his face.
“I’m not that hot,” Emily told him politely, but Harold just turned and darted off once more.
She returned to her list, only for Harold to rush back again, this time carrying snacks and a bottle of water.
“Here,” he said, “the party hasn’t started yet. These will be served once it does, but I figured you might get busy, so I brought these just for you.”
Emily looked at the snacks and water, slightly surprised. Harold just smiled at her, his eyes expectant, as if waiting for her reaction.
She smiled back, a little confused, but Harold’s grin grew even wider—he nodded to himself like he’d been waiting for this moment—and then he turned and rushed off again.
Emily couldn’t help but laugh quietly at his enthusiasm and bright smile. She pulled out her phone to text Jacob.
‘Everything is good here. When you come, you’ll find everything perfect.’
‘Great!’ Jacob replied. ‘I’ll be there soon.’
Just as she was looking up, Harold appeared again—this time carrying a foot massage machine. He placed it beside her legs and tried to lift her foot gently to adjust it.
“You must be tired after working so long. I got this for you.”
Startled, Emily quickly stood and took a step back, laughing nervously. “You really don’t have to do all this. Really. Please, stop.”
Harold looked at her seriously. “It’s going to be a long night. You should relax,” he replied, then turned and ran off once more.
“Harold—” Emily started to call after him, but he was already out of sight. Sighing, she bit her lip and sank back into her seat, slipping her feet into the foot massager as she resumed checking her event list.
Surprisingly, the device felt so good she closed her eyes in relief.
Only five minutes later, Harold was back—this time with a cold drink, complete with a straw. He placed it carefully in front of her.
