Then—out of the corner of her eye—she saw Adam turning toward them.

Her heart jumped into her throat. She shoved Sebastian away, breaking the kiss, quickly stepping back. Turning her face aside, she wiped her lips with the back of her hand, hoping she didn’t look as flustered as she felt.

Adam approached, car keys in hand, his gaze catching her flushed cheeks.

“You alright?”

“Just… a little hot,” Emily said quickly, her voice shaky as she tried to steady her pounding heart.

She stole a glance at Sebastian. Not a flicker of change touched his face—still calm, composed, his breaths steady, as if he hadn’t just made her knees weak in the middle of the street by kissing her breathless.

Adam didn’t comment. “Let’s go.” He started walking toward the parked car, and Emily followed with Sebastian at her side.

As Adam reached the driver’s side, his phone began to ring. He frowned, answering, then stepped a few paces away to take the call.

Emily stood by the car, painfully aware of Sebastian’s closeness—so close that if Adam turned around, he might see something he shouldn’t. But the infuriating man beside her was completely calm, as if there was nothing at all to hide.

Adam’s call ended quickly. He slid his phone back into his pocket and returned. “Emily, you’ll go with Sebastian. He’ll drop you off. I need to get back to the company to handle something.”

Emily hesitated. “…Alright,” she murmured.

Adam climbed into his car and drove off, leaving the two of them standing together on the street.

She turned to Sebastian, her brow furrowed. “From now on, don’t steal projects from my brother just to annoy him, alright?”

Sebastian’s lips curved into a smile. “Alright, I won’t,” his voice dark and husky. “As long as my brother-in-law doesn’t try to be a third wheel between me and my wife… he can have any project he wants.”

Emily’s lips curved into a smile as Sebastian called Adam “brother-in-law.” The way he said it—like he was dying to shove it in Adam’s face rather than say it behind his back—made her chest warm.

Sebastian stepped closer, leaning down to kiss her softly on the lips this time. His mouth moved to the side of her face, brushing a kiss against her ear and then her cheek. His hand slid into the back of her hair, fingers gently massaging her scalp.

“Let’s go home,” he whispered lovingly, kissing her cheek again. “Are you tired?”

She nodded, looking into his eyes. “Yes, I’ve been out since morning. I want to rest.”

He smiled, kissing her lips once more. “We’ll be home soon. Don’t worry.” His voice dropped a little, “And then I’ll help you release all the stress in our bed.”

Her head snapped up, eyes locking onto the glint in his. He wasn’t talking about the kind of rest she meant. She scowled at him, but his wicked grin only deepened in response.

Just then, Sebastian’s phone vibrated. He glanced down and picked up the call.

“Yes, mom?” he answered.

On the other end, Camila Graves’ voice was sharp and furious. “I heard you stole Lucas Cantrell’s girlfriend? Don’t you know his family has strong business ties with us? Get back home right now.”

Sebastian glanced at Emily, who was looking around distractedly. He smiled slightly and lifted his hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, pulling her closer. She rested her face against his chest, arms winding around his waist, her gaze fixed on the street.

“Why are you angry with me?” he said into the phone. “Don’t you want a granddaughter or grandson soon?”

Emily’s eyes widened, and she jerked back, her face frozen in horror. But Sebastian didn’t give her a chance to react. He kissed her again, soft yet possessive, pulling her close until she rested her head against his chest again. His arms wrapped around her as he talked to his mother.

On the other end, Camila scoffed loudly, frustration thick in her voice.

“Keep making me dream, you annoying brat. You’re in your thirties and still don’t even have a marriage certificate yet. Where exactly do you expect my grandchildren to come from?”

Sebastian’s lips twitched into a sly smile. “I’m not just making you dream this time, I promise.”

Emily’s heart pounded so fiercely she could hear it echo in her ears. He talked about their future like it was the most natural thing in the world, as if having children was a plan they’d already set in motion long ago.
