She laughed then stood from the bed. “I never heard of that class being on the college roster, Justice.”

“A man has to keep his woman satisfied, this much I know and I also went a little out of my head when it came to finally having you,” I admitted.

Standing before me while not wearing a stitch, she braced her hands onto her shapely hips and said, “Why me? I’m an ex-stripper, Justice. I come from trailer trash, pretty much. No one in my family ever went to college. Living paycheck to paycheck and still too poor to own a car even. I come from the bad side of town. Hence, why today is happening. My drug addict father will show you that.”

I stood and came around the bed to face her. “Have you even looked in the mirror, babe? All legs, creamy skin, bright blue eyes and flaming red hair. Then there’s your smile. I betyou broke hearts all along the way just by ignoring men as you flashed that dazzling smile. Then let’s say it isn’t your looks. What I see in you...” I tapped her collarbone with my index finger. “Is beauty inside too. You are a good friend to Cinnamon and Jewel. Loyal to the end. You are willing to give up your college fund to help your sister. You kept all of that to yourself, cause you didn’t want anyone else to get hurt. Brave enough to actually try a stupid stunt like sneaking out to town to face all of that alone. So, don’t ever...” I tugged her even closer as I gazed into her eyes. “Eversay you are trash of any kind to me again. You hear me? You are classier than any rich bitch in a fucking ballgown that I ever met.”

Staring back at me, her eyes filled with tears.

I wrapped my arms around her. “Someday and I mean soon, you will be Mrs. Justice Walker and you will finally believe me.”

Hugging me tight, she whispered, “Where did you come from Justice Walker? How have I ever lived without you in my life?”

I pulled back and beamed at her. “Don’t worry about that. Just know that you will not be without me for the rest of your life.”

She laughed and smacked my chest. “You cannot be for real. I mean guys like you are only made up men in romance novels!”

“Hey now, I resemble that remark.” I grinned at her. “I will have you know that I grew up in the small town of Sugarland, Texas on a ranch. I am a real life biker-slash-attorney. I drive a Bentley when in town for work, then a Harley the rest of the time. I can handle a brawl, a civil case or a corporate luncheon and shoot a penny off of a fence at a hundred yards.”

Scarlet stared at me and shook her head. “Nah, you aren’t real. All that and sweet? Sexy as hell, funny and soft-spoken withmanners that would put Mr. Rogers to shame. Skilled hands that could soften up the Wicked Witch of Oz? There has to be a catch. Any woman worth her salt would think so. There has to be something wrong with you somehow.” She laughed and stepped around me to head to the bathroom.

“Well, I can’t think of anything?” I said. “Maybe I am too smart for my own good? Maybe I think too highly of myself? Liberty would tell you that in a half second.”

Laughing, she succinctly shut the door.

I stared at the closed bathroom door. I sure hoped she didn’t find this flaw, one that I wasn’t aware of. Turning, I grabbed my clothes that had been tossed on the floor and paused. Last night was… I shook away the erotic images in my head. It just showed me that beauty and precious moments were rare. Scarlet was both beautiful and precious. I vowed to always make sure she did not have anything to cry about after this. Not anything that would make her unhappy. I wanted to be sure she wanted for nothing. She deserved the life I wanted to give her. She was the best thing to ever happen to me and she would know it every damn day of our life together. Putting my pants and shirt on, I looked around for my shoes. I couldn’t find them. “Well, shit,” I muttered to myself. “No one will see me.”

My room was just a few doors down, so I opened the door and stepped out.

“Well, my, oh my…”

My head shot up and I turned to stare at Ma Walker. I know my cheeks were flushed.

Looking me up and down, she wasn’t going to allow me to go by without some remark, “Mr. Lawyerman, where are yourshoes? I mean I do not recall seeing you half-dressed and barefoot before.”

I had to laugh as I stepped over to her and said, “Life’s meant to be lived, Ma and I made sure of that.”

Now her cheeks flamed as she laughed. “You are the charmer, ain’t ya? I see your dad in you and I also see a man who is in love.”

“Well, I guess you are seeing it straight then.” I gave her a polite nod. “Ma’am.” Then I walked barefoot down the hall with the sound of her chuckling following me.

Entering my room, I dressed in jeans and a tshirt then put on my biker boots. Grabbing both guns, one went into my waistband and the other in my front pocket. It barely fit but where else would I put it? I grabbed my knife in its sheath and tucked it into my boot. The whole time, violence bounced in my head as I envisioned ending this Deacon’s life. He would probably be in hiding like usual, but a man could dream, couldn’t he?

Finally, I was ready and I looked around to be sure I hadn’t forgotten anything.

A small knock came on the door, so I went over and opened it.

Scarlet smiled at me. “Well, there’s the biker man. I’ve never seen you dressed down like this.”

“Oh yes, you have.” I pulled her close. “You have seen me undressed in fact.”

She bit at her lip nervously and looked back and forth down the hallway.

“It’s ok, Scarlet. I don’t happen to care if anyone hears me. Come on, we need to eat.” I took her hand and then turned to shut the door.

When we got to the large dining room, most of the family hadn’t arrived yet. That was fine with me as the fewer questions the better.

Liberty was there of course, as he raised a brow when we came over. “Good morning, youtwo.”
